I am old, so I probably don't count, but I played this over and over, and no matter which word I was reading, all I ever heard was "green needle" or "brain needle".  I never heard the work "storm" at all.

I don't know why it changed from green needle to brain needle, but it didn't seem to be related to the reading of the word, because I would hear then both interchangeably.

Here is a good video to help explain it. The short version is our brain fills in most of the blanks in our perception. And our perception is not 100% of our surroundings. You are simply getting a processed product trying to represent what's around you. 

That leaves me feeling a little weird...
