Here's a old Austin hatchet I found at a garage sale last year for $5.00 I did not know what it was at the time. I did lot's of research and asked around a lot. They where made in 1981 and they are very rare. It features neck through and string though body.

I had to put new tuners, electronics, truss rod cover. I painted it with color shifting paint also. I still need to make a back coverplate for it though.

That's a unique guitar! Are those Duncan Invader pickups? I like the finish it as a nice iridescence quality. Looks like it would play nice too. I have put together some of those kits in recent years for customers. I have found the wood and construction on the kits to be quite good however the hardware is typically subpar in my opinion. Which makes them almost as expensive as a manufactured guitar by the time you source the hardware and put it together and finish it. Although it is a very enriching experience to build a kit.
Thanks for the reply they are invader copies. They where cheap but imho just as good as the SDI. Seem to have good impedance and the punch of a actual invader. I had actual SD invaders on a older jackson guitar and they sound the same to me. I have a friend who got a SG style guitar kit and he said the same about the hardware especially the bridge and tuners.

Likely just as good as the Duncans without paying for the 'Name'. They are punchy pickups. I had a friend who put these on a cheap hollowbody when I was young. That guitar would just howl with feedback!!! I ended up replacing them for him and I kept the invaders. I still have them in a box somewhere. Too hot of a pickup for me!
Yea I play mostly heavy stuff and these have a nice growl to them. I really don't actually get much feedback from them though. I can tell they have been wax potted from the factory. probably why the don't get much feedback at all. Another really cool pickup by Semour Duncan is the Screamin Demon humbucker. Had a friend who had them on Ibanez RG. They sounded great. Also the specs on these Invader copies is in range of the real ones. The bridge pickup ohms out to 15.25 and the Neck is 7.84. So I'd say that's good right?
Yeah that would be about the right spec for those pickups. The Screamin Demon pickup was developed by Duncan with George Lynch to tailor to his sound. Great pickups and a great guitar player George Lynch. A very nice guy who is so down to earth and real easygoing. I play a lot of heavy stuff too but I am getting old and find myself heading to country and jazz when I play. That said my neighbors know when I'm in the mood to churn out the heavy riffs! Bombastic chords and crunch from hell!

Yea I like Lynch, I didnt mention that. Signature type pickups. I had a real nice Jackson King V with some Dimebuckers in it's another signature pickup, man did that thing chug and played like a dream too, nice action. I needed money at the time and had to sell him, still regret it. Yea I am 58 myself and I blues it up sometimes with a cheap but decent Grote semihollow myself. It's got that awesome long sustain too.

The Jackson King V's are hot guitars. I have a friend who is like everything Dimebag. He had several Dimebag model guitars. Jackson, Dean, and Washburn. He even has a Dimebucker in this Les Paul. Wicked pickups!
Wicked is a perfect description of them. Let me tell you those PU's where cool. They really picked up pinch harmonics in a very neat way too. Squealy, fuzzy and warm tone. I guess that's what they was designed for. Honestly I think they was above the invaders. I don't remember where they Dimarzio's or Seymours though?

Seymour Duncan SH 13 is the pickup. They are a lot hotter than Invaders. Dimebag used a pickup called the Sustaniac which is what they SH 13 is based off of.

Yeah a lot of guitarists have far too many guitars (myself included) just sitting pretty in cases and hardly played

I have narrowed down my playable tone collection to Strat, Tele, and PRS

American made guitars to me are rock solid work horses, as are German amps

Thank you sir!

I will probably narrow down the collection, I really play the old Jackson the most, will keep that and the EVH probably, funny because I almost wanted to buy a Strat the other day..just not the right time to spend.

Cheers!

This is my PRS. I put Seymore Duncan distortion pickups in it. Changed knobs to black and locking tuners. It had all clear hardware on it which I wasn't a fan of.

These are 3 kit guitars. You've already seen the 335. The SG was for another friend and the LP was for myself.

Super nice builds! love the Martin too!!!! The PRS is very pretty, I'm waiting for a baritonE PRS to drop into my lap.

I have thought about building an axe, from the Warmouth catalogue, Is that basically what you did?

I loved the finish on Mykes project, I have an amber birdseye Epi LP, pretty unique

My Parker acoustic, another unique guitar, nice birdseye back and sides, not sure what material the fretboard is..plays nice, just like an electric.

My EVH Wolfgang Special, nice guitar, built in Mexico..super flawless build, and fretwork..really good, she's heavy.

Too many guitars!, not enough skill..lol
Your Jackson is nice! The paint scheme is very cool. The birdseye on your Les Paul is awesome! I love Les Pauls! Hold on tonthat Parker!! You don't see too many around. Its a beautiful guitar. I bet you love your Wolfgang. They are well loved by just about everyone who owns one. Thanks for adding to the thread!
Thank you sir! the Jackson just feels right, the desert camo finish is cool. I have owned it for 12 years or so. For the hell of it, I looked up the SN a few weeks back, and was surprised to find it was made in 97, my much newer Jackson doesn't connect the same.

The LP is unique with the birdseye, I'm pretty sure that was a selling point for me, it plays nice too, a bit heavy though.

I actually sold my Parker a couple years ago, and then bought it back, I won't let it go again.

The Wolfgang is pretty much perfect, the Mexico Fender plant is building some nice guitars. It is a bit heavy, but it plays nice, stays in tune..no upbends on this Floyd though..not a deal killer, I guess it was Eddies preference..R.I.P. Eddie!

Total respect to you, you do some killer work.

I miss my guitar I had to pawn off because I was struggling for money after a nasty divorce.

Ideally it would be great if other members who are guitar nuts add pictures and stories related to guitars whether you build them play them or just plain appreciate them! Stick it in this thread and lets rock! Something to get the focus off all the strife and negativity in the world these days. I think we could all use a break from grim reality and appreciate the things in life which make it rewarding. For me a large part of that is guitars and music. With those I can lose myself in playing, listening, building or composing. Its a break from the zeitgeist.

Top picture is a trio of guitars I built out of American Black Walnut.  Finished in nitrocellulose lacquer letting the natural beauty of the wood shine through. I build these guitars from scratch. Raw walnut, maple and rosewood. It would take me about 4 weeks to build a guitar from scratch.

Second picture is a dB model guitar which has DiMarzio super distortion pickups, in/out phasing as well as coil splitting. The neck is quartersawn maple with a rosewood fingerboard. Tusq nylon nut, Hipshot bridge.
The other guitar pictured is a DX model guitar. DiMarzio super distortion pickups, push/pull pots for coil splitting, has a Pigtail bridge/tailpiece combination. Neck is quartersawn maple with rosewood fingerboard and mother of pearl block inlay with a Tusq graphite nut.

Third picture is DX headstock detail. Hand done logo.

Fourth picture is DX body after finishing

Last picture just shows the incredible beauty of the walnut wood on the dB model.
I will add more - this is just a start!

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!

Pretty cheap tuners, knobs, pickups etc. The wood is pretty good quality and even the fret jobs were pretty decent.

I need to take old guitars out of storage and take photos, I think any old photos I had are on old PC

I have a few on this Ipad, they are not the best quality but I can’t be blamed as I didn’t take them!

Look like I’m in my early 30’s in these

1st photo was a gig in Bath, with my ESP Lynch skull n snake guitar. The singer Tom was using my BC Rich
I’m using my daughters line 6 flexy combo as couldn’t be arsed to bring full rig. To be honest it sounded great and the PA guy was pretty decent.

One of the bands after us used my lil amp and he just could not stop it from feed-backing using the setting I used with his guitar.( modern high gain soldano )so I had to get up on stage and gate it

[Image: 36200-CF1-CFF5-48-CC-8-FFA-603-D90-CDAEC7.jpg]

Next photo was another band 18th birthday booking

Using my old LP, switchblade head and 4 x 12 with Parker fly for backup

[Image: EFFCB474-D6-D6-40-FD-8-CF0-0-BCDBEEF054-F.jpg]

It was one of those wrong bands at the wrong gig events, we all get them!

Next photo, at rehearsals with my old drummer. have ear defenders on here as he always hit cymbals hard!

Guitar is my favourite Fender Road house Strat with JB jnr in the bridge

[Image: FF346-F37-323-E-4-B90-9756-943-DEF46-A265.jpg]

This must be early 40s, great cover band. Can hardly see me, again not guilty didn’t take shot.

Thats an older PRS custom 22 with a fixed bridge I’m playing. The type of PRS that had no switches but volume and tone pots! Amp wise, must have been line 6 Vetta head and 2 sets of matching 2 x 12s

I notice my Gin and Tonics are within reach on PA bass speaker

There is also a company out of Columbus Ohio called Stewart Macdonald which is all things for building, restoring and maintaining guitars. Just search StewMac it will come up. They have kits there of a variety. They have kits which do include quality hardware and mimic vintage guitars. There is some kits featuring Wilkinson parts which are very good quality. It is worth checking out if you haven't heard of them. Been getting tools and pieces from them since 1984!

HERITAGE SEMI-HOLLOW BODY
[Image: D2.jpg]

This guitar was built from a single piece of Honduran Mahogany. I cut a cap off the top then routed out chambers then attached the top. It has Tone Pro's hardware, Gotoh tuners, Gibson Burstbucker pickups. 2 volumes 1 tone, 3 way switch. Both volumes are push/pull pots which will split the coils.

It was inspired by the introduction of the Gibson ES-339 which is a smaller bodied ES-335. This body is the size of a Les Paul Jr. but a bit thicker. It has an awesome array of tones and was very comfortable to play.

Last I knew it was in possession of the guitar player from the band The Frantic but that was many years ago.

That shows you how close we are as countries, brothers of music playing the same bars and clubs and smelling the same stuff!

I have to say looking back, playing in cover bands way more fun than trying to do the metal stuff when there isn’t a market for it

After a metal gig men would come up and chat music, after a cover band set ladies would wrap their arms around you.

Yes there are definitely parallels. I played in an Iron Maiden cover band for several years. We were the top Iron Maiden cover band in the midwest USA. I was playing 4 nights a week all over the place. I made ok money doing that. But your right the ladies loved the cover bands!

I also played as a guitarist for a band called Belly which was I guess alternative music. I was just a hired gun for part of their tour. That was a very professional gig and payed quite well. I saw what a real life on the road was with some record company money backing you. Its a tough tiring life and I realized I was more a homebody and did some other tours as a guitar tech then just said fuck it! I hated living on the road, It was exciting going to venues and the energy. But it became draining to me after a few years.
I have lately sat in on a few gigs with a popular local country band and every Christmas I sit in on a set with a small jazz orchestra doing Christmas songs. God I sound old!!!
My newest thing is I want to learn pedal steel guitar. I want to find one and teach myself to play but I have space issues and figuring where to set it up is daunting.

At least you have done the big pro gig, and seen what it takes and then decided it wasn’t for you.Wouldn’t be for me too unless I was a lot younger and had no financial responsibility

Yes, the jazz orchestra doing Christmas songs is going to age anyone, joking aside sounds fun

Go for the pedal steel  minusculebeercheers

Well that's odd. I looked into the SH 13 and that pickup has rails instead of poles? My dimbuckers had poles. Here's a pic of me with the King V in question. You can see the Semour printing on the neck PU, but not really the dimebucker part. But They did have either dimebags signature or it said dimebucker on them as well, it's been a long time but I remember them to be dimebuckers. I wonder what I had then? I bought the guitar with them already installed. Wish i had a better pic, this is from 2007 or 2008.
