1.95-2.00$ p litre, for 87, so around 6.50$ US. I think around 75 cents per litre is some form of tax or another. 

In a lot of European countries the tax makes up more than 60% of the price. One rough example from Germany:

For Germany, after all taxes, it's about 98cent / L taxes.
The mineral oil companies' profit per L: 0,5-4cent
The gas station profit per L: 0,5 -2 cent

The state is earning between 25 to 196 times as much per L doing nothing at all, than the fuel station owners or the ones that actually pull it out of the ground and refine it.

With Americans still in shock over jaw-dropping, rising gas prices, a few proposals have floated around Congress and elsewhere about offering some relief to drivers. 

Los Angeles on Tuesday became the first major city in the U.S. to reach an average gas price of $6 or more. That's according to fuel savings platform GasBuddy, which reported the national average gas price in the U.S. beginning to decline since its peak of $4.35 per gallon on March 10. 

Some proposals include a stimulus check while others would tax oil companies. 

Americans could get a $100 per month energy rebate

One proposal comes from Reps. Mike Thompson of California, John Larson of Connecticut, and Lauren Underwood of Illinois.

There was a thing on the local news station about gas tank drilling. It hasn't been happening too often where I live as far as I know but it's been reported in some other towns. What a mess.

They have been having that happen in Calumet Michigan for many years.  If they could not get the gas cap off, they drilled a hole in the tank...thank you world for cordless drills being cheap enough for all people to buy and use for this purpose.  (Sarcasm)

Canberra petrol prices pumped up beyond $2 (Thats in AUD$ ok)

By late Thursday afternoon, the price in Canberra ranged from 185.9c a litre at the Metro garages in Fyshwick up to 209.9c at the Coles Express in Curtin (a difference of $3.50 for a 25 litre tank).

Many petrol stations were hovering around 199.9 as though reluctant to break the barrier - but with no doubt that the only way was up.
The price increase means that by shopping around a driver could save an average of about $6 on a tank.
On Thursday, the average price of basic unleaded in Canberra was 196.5c a litre. At the end of January, it was 171.1c.

$16.36 AUD$/gallon (HK-fuel) / $7.84 AUD$/gallon (my-local-fuel) = 2.09 x the cost which is a 109%+ increase

Thats a bit mind boggling!  

Well I for one can't complain about high petrol prices as my pension is indexed to the CPI (consumer price index) which includes petrol and so the higher petrol goes the bigger CPI bonus increase I receive.  

Disclaimers: I don't own nor drive any vehicles and I pay for my drivers petrol and parking fees [they pay 1st and get reimbursed] out of NDIS funds which are in addition to my regular pension and I have distance limit on how far I can travel with my drivers which is 100km in 2hrs [thats going fully across the city and back again as Canberra is 50km north to south and 25k east to west in area].

@OmegaLogos - I been to HK a few times, years ago and never had a need to drive. Did not know they have the highest gas prices. Freakin insane, though Death Valley is not far behind. Here in the States I'm wondering how the independent OTR truckers are surviving. Guess my next grocery bill will tell me. The world as we know/knew it is coming to an end. By 2030 nobody will recognize it.
