I thought of one of our members when I read this

Quote:"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. The moment the Men who wanted to be left alone are forced to fight back, it is a form of suicide. They are literally killing off who they used to be. Which is why, when forced to take up violence, these Men who wanted to be left alone, fight with unholy vengeance against those who murdered their former lives. They fight with raw hate, and a drive that cannot be fathomed by those who are merely play-acting at politics and terror. TRUE TERROR will arrive at these people's door, and they will cry, scream, and beg for mercy... but it will fall upon the deaf ears of the Men who just wanted to be left alone." - Author Unknown

I dunno who you had in mind, but I can identify with that. It's why I moved back to the sticks, and make myself hard to find. I just want to be left alone. I'll do everything in my power to avoid a fight, because I've fought enough to know what comes next, and no one in their right mind wants that.

Anything worth fighting for is worth killing - or dying - for. If it's not that important, then it ain't worth bruising your knuckles up over. So, any fight you get into is a fight for your life... so you'd better be sure it's worth it. If it comes to that, then you pull out all the stops, and go for the win. As an old boss of mine once told us, "I ain't paying you to fight, I'm paying you to win - so you do whatever that takes."

And we did. If you're not fighting to win, then you're fighting to lose. Since every fight you get into is a fight for your life,  you do what it takes to win.

I don't know how many fights I've walked away from, just turned my back and walked away, because it wasn't worth killing over. I had that experience recently, as a matter of fact. Told an obnoxious man that I wasn't there to fight, have a nice damned day, and walked away. Had to do it, because I knew that if I turned that critter loose, the hounds of hell would come with it, and only one of us would walk away, so I walked away first, to keep from X-ing him out. Felt like shit for days afterward, because I knew he didn't have a prayer if it came to a fight, I KNEW he'd lose and lose big, and that left me feeling pretty cowardly for just turning my heel... but we're both still  breathing, so there IS that.

He did show up on my doorstep a month or so later, to make peace. My ma, who has known me all my life - and therefore knows how I am - figured he was scared of me, but I told her I didn't think so, that a little grudging respect goes a long way, and that's all it was. There ain't no percentages in taking a man's pride when he's trying to be peaceful. Let him keep that pride, because you know what happens if he loses it. He'll try to regain it, and then you're in the grease again.

But there are bastards in this world that cannot let a thing be. They'll tease and push until you've got nothing left but a fight, to shut them the hell up. So it's best, in my view, to make yourself scarce, hard to find and harder to contact, to keep them at bay and away.

Everybody can go home happy that way. I leave them be, they leave me be, and everyone gets to kiss their missus good night that evening.

Diogenes was eating bread and lentils for supper. He was seen by the philosopher Aristippus, who lived comfortably by flattering the king.

Said Aristippus, ‘If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.’ Said Diogenes, ‘Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.’

I always liked, " It is not your duty to die for your country but make the other SOB die for his". Country, house, family, which finally comes down you and yours IMO.

A  very poignant post and/or quote.  Little scary when you read into it.

Perhaps I'm wrong but it's sorta like "Don't Tread On Me."

My introspection,

No way I can figure out who you had in mind. I am at a loss  tinybiggrin

Just because Ninurta is trying to figure out how to fit this on a bumper sticker doesn't imply anything.

Bumper sticker? I wanted to paint it as a  banner all the way around the car, but Grace vetoed the idea.

Wimmin!
