In the confused, chaotic hours following the 9/11 attacks, President Bush
found himself trapped aboard a fuel-depleted Air Force One while
America inched toward nuclear war, it has emerged.
Bush and his closest advisers argued about whether to return to
Washington, DC to command the country, or to head elsewhere
to protect the Commander in Chief, Politico reported.
Meanwhile, with only eight hours of fuel on board and the chain
of communication scrambled, the President was unable to tell
Vladimir Putin that the US's step up to DEFCON 3 was not a
precursor to nuclear war...'
In the a time before iPhones, or even BlackBerries, communication
to and from the President was highly limited - especially from a
Florida high school.
Master Sgt. Dana Lark, superintendent of communications for Air
Force One told Politico that they found out about the second strike
on the towers via old-fashioned TV aerial.
'We didn’t have the ability to tune into CNN, Fox, or anything else,'
he said...'
