being tackled by heroes in Wurzburg

'At least three people were killed and 15 wounded in a knife rampage in Germany today, according to reports.
Shocking video shared online showed a man swinging a large blade as a group of bystanders tackled him in
a town square before cops swooped and shot the suspect in the leg.

The town of Wurzburg, twinned with London?

Police said they launched a "major operation" after a number of victims were in attacked apparently at random
in Wurzburg, Bavaria. In the footage, the alleged attacker is seen barefoot and armed with a long knife.
Terrified onlookers scream and shout as he lunges at passersby with the blade.

A man shouts: “He has just stabbed a woman.”
A whole crowd of people gather grabbing sticks and chairs to throw at him in a bid to stop the rampage.
A man with a long stick hits the knifeman from around the corner, with him hitting back.
But after cowering around a corner, a mob of around 20 chase after him down a side street.

Moments after, a police car eventually swoops in where he is stopped with a shot to the leg, arrested and now
in custody. Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann said that the attacker was a Somali national who has
lived in Wurzburg since 2015.

The Somali was known to the police according to Herrmann: “He is known to police and was forcibly committed
to psychiatric treatment.  “In the case of the seriously injured, it's not certain that they will all survive."
Three are dead, six seriously injured and nine with minor injuries, BR24 report.
Police are not looking for anyone else and say there is no longer a risk to the public...'

Thank God he didn't have an "assault weapon"! The toll could have gone as high as 3 dead and 15 injured had that been the case!

Oh, wait...

WHEN is Germany going to enact some commonsense assault-knife controls?

.
Diogenes was eating bread and lentils for supper. He was seen by the philosopher Aristippus, who lived comfortably by flattering the king.

Said Aristippus, ‘If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.’ Said Diogenes, ‘Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.’

Those terrible, racist people who tackled him. How dare they!

//sarc off//

Sad situation. A determined killer will get it done no matter the means. The folks who chased him down need to be commended. Let honest justice be done.

"...He is known to police and was forcibly committed to psychiatric treatment...".

So just to fill in the gaps that are conveniently left out of the article, a Somalian man who 'came' to Würzburg in
Bavaria in 2015, became so unhinged that he required psychiatric treatment within those six years of fleeing
his home country that enjoys an environment of fear and death.

I believe we can accept that Bavaria doesn't adhere to the same standards as Somalia. Wurzbug doesn't
conduct itself through the rulings of Islamic law and isn't noted for its poor human-rights commitments.
Wuzrburg has a better economy that Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.

Bavarian interior minister Joachim Herrmann said in a statement that the perpetrator had in recent months,
drawn the attention of authorities because of a number of violent altercations, and had been taken into psychiatric
care a few days ago.

So somebody must've left a door open at the facility because if a person is 'forcibly committed to psychiatric treatment'',
it means that he didn't attend on his own volition. But it's still puzzling how someone from a violent, despotic regime
would wish harm on those in a land that had accepted him into their own country.
Hmmm.

Travelsafe-abroad.com explains the problems with holiday-makers wishing to visit Somalia:

Warnings & Dangers in Somalia
Overall Risk = HIGH
Somalia is currently a very dangerous destination for potential travellers.
Governments in several countries have even issued warnings against traveling to this country, for reasons such as terrorism,
kidnappings and other types of violent crime. Visiting Somalia can end in you getting seriously hurt or killed.

Transport & Taxis Risk = HIGH
Given that Somalia has been without an effective government for 17 years, it has naturally taken a toll on its roads and transportation.
The roads are bad, and there are only two ways to get around Somalia: buses and taxis. As you can imagine, neither is safe, especially
buses that can get road blocked and people inside robbed, mugged or worse.

Pickpockets Risk = HIGH
Crime levels are high in Somalia and this goes for both petty and violent crime.
Expect petty crimes like pickpocketing, bag snatching, camera snatching, and other forms of theft. Avoid crowded places, if you must
leave your accommodation.

Natural Disasters Risk = MEDIUM
Excluding the warfare, as it's a man-made disaster, the two main natural hazards that have been known to happen in Somalia are
droughts and floods.

Mugging Risk = HIGH
Violent confrontations like muggings, armed robberies and kidnappings are the norms in Somalia so it is recommended that you take
extra care on the streets of this country, avoid dark streets and deserted areas. Bear in mind that risks increase after dark.

Terrorism Risk = HIGH
Terrorists are very likely to try and carry out attacks in Somalia. The biggest threat is coming from Al Shabaab and other groups
opposed to the Somali government that persists in carrying out deadly attacks in and around Mogadishu on an almost daily basis.

Scams Risk = HIGH
This country is so dangerous at the moment that scams are the least of your problems. But yes, there are scammers that will try
and take advantage of travellers, so double check your change, never pay anything upfront and negotiate everything in advance.
Be very careful around ATMs and be wary of anyone trying to distract you.

Women Travellers Risk = HIGH
Somalia is not a safe destination for women. Do not go alone anywhere, and keep in mind that it is best not to move around
Somalia at all, except if you're in a car with windows rolled up.

So... How Safe Is Somalia Really?
Somalia is a seriously dangerous country to travel to, and traveling there is strongly advised against.
The US State Department and most Western nations advise their citizens against going to Somalia, even if their visit there is
of essential importance.

Al-Qaeda and the affiliated terrorist group, al-Shabaab persist in their activity across the country, kidnapping people, carrying
out suicide bombings and generally causing fear and chaos. There is a particular terrorist threat to foreigners in places where
they tend to gather, like airports, government buildings, hotels, and shopping areas.

In fact, in 2016, there were 14 reported attacks in hotels, restaurants, and the international airport in Mogadishu, while the latest
attacks in autumn 2017 resulted in the deadliest incident ever in the capital of the country, with over 350 people killed.

The only disputably safer place in Somalia is the semi-autonomous region Somaliland where the situation is much better than in
the rest of the country.

Terrorism, however, isn’t your only problem in Somalia as you have to be wary of violent crime that exists in this country.
Although there is a police force established, keep in mind that corruption is on a high level, which is why crime rates are growing.
Do not leave your accommodation, as you are very likely to be kidnapped by a warlord or a criminal, and held for ransom.
Again, avoid Somalia at all costs, as traveling there might end up in you being severely injured or killed.
............................................................................................

Now... with coming from a backdrop like the one described above, surely a psychotic disorder is to blame for this man's behaviour?
One would struggle to cite any other cause, considering the mirror-image he currently resides in compared to the country he fled from.

Unless there's a belief system that is so attuned to the basics of man, a demanding ideology that thrives in places of hopelessness
and poverty. A dogma so potent that any opposing evidence to its structure can cause a mental breakdown that forces a person to
reach out to a familiar habit born of living in an earlier deprived environment. Namely, violence.
Hmmm.
