I am just a man who has lost literally everything. My God's love and protection. My woman (who was never even mine but i fucked it all up anyway). And my will to live. And my hope. I have no fear of the dark. Never have had it.
Even when I was a teenager, I'd go prowling at all hours of the night in the deep dark woods. Never took a flashlight, because I always had good night vision.
I've been out on nights so dark that the only way I could find the path was to wait for lightning to flash. I have seen lighting strike in the night, and look like it "splashed" when it hit the ground, sending runners out in all directions.
I learned how to move in the dark, how to avoid obstacles on the blackest of nights. I learned to be ready for any surprise, how to hold myself in readiness for any movement coming at me in the dark. How to counter it, and keep moving forward.
There is no reason to fear the dark, because something IS always there. Someone IS always near. Knowing that, just be ready, and don't fear the unknown. It's not "unknown", it's there. Always ready. You just need to be always ready, too.
I don't fear the dark, I own the night. I am what makes other people fear the dark.

At least you still have yours. Sometime in 77 I burned all mine as I was still pissed about Nam... It really does not matter as everything is listed on my DD-214... which with $20 might buy me a breakfast some place in the states.. Killing has always been easy; it is the staying alive that can be problematic

That depends on when you go. On Veteran's Day,some restaurants like Golden Corral will comp your entire meal. Come to think of it, I've never even had to show a DD-214 (because I don't have one) on Veteran's Day. Some veteran friends used to haul me out to Golden Corral with them every Veteran's Day, and I don't think I've ever seen any of them have to produce their separation papers.
