You mean to tell me, they couldn't roll down a window or open a door once the water filled enough to release some water pressure off the doors.
Something just doesn't makes since, I don't think we're getting the whole story. I mean they were still found in the back seat after they were downing, I would think they fight for their lives and get into the front seat and try to open a door or window.
