Ohio State active shooter reported; suspect dead, 8 injured

At least one suspect was killed and 8 other people injured after an active shooter was reported on the campus of Ohio State University in Columbus on Monday morning. The school issued an alert via its emergency alert system and urged students and faculty to shelter in place. For the latest updates, follow Yahoo News’ live blog below.

What we know:

• A suspect is dead after an active shooter was reported on the campus of Ohio State University in Columbus on Monday.
  
• The school alerted students and faculty shortly before 10 a.m., ordering them to shelter in place as police, FBI and ATF units swarmed the area.
  
• At least 8 people were being treated at local hospitals, officials said. None appear to have life-threatening injuries.
  
• Both NBC News and CNN report that officials believe the suspect acted alone and attacked victims with a large knife before being fatally shot by a responding officer.
  
• The shelter in place order was lifted around 11:30 a.m., and scene was declared secure.
  
• Classes were canceled for the remainder of the day.
  

Well, it seems the worst is over and the suspect is dead.   I hope the people taken to the hospital will be okay. 

What is it about the holidays that always brings out the "crazies"?

Nine hurt as suspect runs over and stabs people at Ohio State University.

'...That warning may have been triggered by what turned out to be police gunfire
 - the suspect was shot dead by an officer who had arrived at the scene in "les
 than a minute", police said.

The suspect has been identified as Abdul Razak Ali Artan, a man born in Somalia
but living in the US as a legal permanent resident

Just after 11.30am local time, police said that the scene was secure and lockdown
had been lifted.
When asked during a press conference if anybody had been shot other than the
attacker, Ms Jacobs replied: "Not that we know of".

She was also asked whether authorities were considering the possibility the attack
was terrorism and she said: "I think we have to consider that it is"...'
