I think Musk is right, and there is no inconsistency in supporting the Ukraine AND calling for peace negotiations. Russia is almost certain to win. All they have to do is stick to their guns, and in a "total war", they have the numbers to overwhelm the Ukraine in pitched battles.

Musk seems to just want the Ukrainians to get back to a peaceful existence, and with war all around, that just ain't possible.

The U.S. faced an exactly similar circumstance 161 years ago. A portion of it broke away and declared independence, and the Motherland razed that area like the wrath of God until it fell back into line with the thinking of the Overlords. We called it a "Civil War" (as if there is ever anything civil about war), but the exact same circumstance in the Ukraine as was found in the Confederacy draws howls of outrage when you call it a Civil War on the internet.

And, while it is certainly the prerogative of the Ukrainian ambassador to tell Musk to "fuck off" and try to relate the post entirely to Tesla sales in the Ukraine, he seems to be forgetting that the Ukraine would not have made the headway it has if Musk had not provided Starlink communication infrastructure to the Ukraine free of charge...
