The lines of division are cities vs less populated areas, in almost every state. Even CA isnt progressive away from the populated coast. Im not sure how a split can be along these lines.
The last time, in 2018 I think that California's voted to slit the state it was defeated because of the Illegals and Dead Voting.

And the last time wasnt the first time! There have been over 200 various proposals, bills, etc to split Cali up since it became a state. The last attempt made the ballot but was pulled off by a ca supreme court judge. The fight continues.
