I tend towards belief of at least some of these reports, because they offer an explanation for why the invasion has bogged down. There has to be an explanation for why the much vaunted Russian Military Machine is behaving as if someone threw sand in the gear grease, and these reports fill that bill.
It has been said that an army travels on it's stomach, and rations that expired 7 years ago - when you can get any rations at all - are not conducive to a sumptuous feast. That, in combination with not being told they were going to invade a neighbor that has not attacked them, and where at least some of the Russian troops are likely to have relatives, and then finding that far from being welcomed with open arms as "liberators" and instead being attacked at every turn, does not make for a morale booster.
