Second Letter by French Soldiers: “We are Talking About the Survival of our Country”

France came very close to a coup in the 1960s with the Algerian crisis.  That event propelled De Gaulle back into power because he was the only politician with enough cred to tell the French military to stand down.  Their army has intervened in their government before.

A bit to note here is that fully 10% of the French Army has been deployed on security duties -in France- for several years now due to the threat of Muslim terrorism.  Could be their army is getting sick and tired of that role and that they don't like that it appears to be a never-ending mission.  The tone of the letters strikes a sore note regarding Islamic radicals in France.

Cheers

I was pretty surprised when I learned about the 2nd REP.   Pretty surprised to learn about this in-France op too. I have a tendency to dismiss the French as a bunch of croissant eaters, but that's obviously very wrong.
