I think what would be interesting would be for you to retrace that vehicle route again and see if you come across those bluffs.  For that matter, do they show up on Google or Bing satellite imagery ?

Cool encounter with the lizard.  The dust devil (willy willy) didn't sound like much fun.

This reminds me, I forgot to mention that others have mentioned seeing these "small tornadoes" when they were having an unexplained experience. I never knew what they were called. Willy willy... interesting.

Could this be something that is stirred up when two dimensions collide?
