Firstly, I'd like to apologise - for I have absolutely no idea whether this thread is located in the correct category or not.
It could be filed under High Strangeness, Health Matters, Food & Nutrition, Aliens & UFO's??? Who knows?

The subject of this particular thread, as the title suggests, is: A Numbered Blueberry.
That is... a Blueberry with a number or code marked on it.

Innocuous? Trivial? Easily Explainable?

Well, possibly.... but probably Not!

This subject matter first appeared to me as a sub-topic within a youtube video by a creator called MrMBB333.
It was part of a series of "Hard to Believe But TRUE" type videos that he'd uploaded. (*Screenshot below.)




The Blueberry segment of the video was titled "MUTANT BLUEBERRY" and crops up about 9:55 into the video, which I will provide a link for below:



The original (true) tale of the mutant blueberry occurred in Newfoundland in 2007, when a guy called Tim was trying out his new Digital Camera, taking close-up photos of blueberries. It was only later, when looking over the images that he'd captured that day, that he noticed one particular blueberry which has a number or code marked on its surface!



The uploader of the video seems to have concluded that the number/code is UID10H4 - as seen in the screen grab above - but I am not entirely convinced of the accuracy of that conclusion and I believe that there are other possible interpretations that could be equally valid.

So, HOW does a number or code get onto a Blueberry in the first place???
Genetic Modification??? ALIENS???


Well, I've done a little research myself, and apparently although rare, it can and does happen...

In Aug'17 a customer of Sainsbury's supermarket in the UK found numbers on his blueberries:

And in Apr'22 a fellow Brit found numbers and letters on his shop bought Blueberries too:

After a little bit of investigation, an answer was apparently found!

When the blueberries are packed into those clear plastic "punnets", the packs are often coded so that the product is traceable back to source, and the code is "etched" into the plastic using a special CO2 etching process.
The punnets have holes in them, which allows the natural fruit/berries to breathe, so occasionally... the etching process marks the fruit (through the holes in the punnet) as well as the punnet itself!
Fortunately, the process is so delicate that it can mark, but not damage the surface of the fruit, as seen in the images above!

So, Mystery SOLVED!!??!!



BUT....

In the first example of numbered Blueberries (that I gave at the start of this thread)....

The Blueberries were STILL ATTACHED TO THE BUSH in the wild and had NOT been subjected to ANY processing or packaging!



What Say YOU, fellow Rogues??

What does the code signify? How did it get onto a wild Blueberry? Who or What is responsible? What implications does this have for our Health & Wellbeing? Is it linked to GMO? Aliens???

Thanks! I was looking at that number a couple different ways also.

I have watched MrMBB333 for a many years. I love his videos about the mutant plants.

I have puzzled over the blueberry imprinted while still on the branch, still running that one through the old brain.

The shaking leaves I am still puzzled by too. I live in the woods, and have run across that phenomena before, a time or two. Once it was a whole branch, not just a leaf.

I think, all and all, there will always be something we just don't know.
