Maybe it is not as bad as they think. Let's look at a different set of numbers and possibilities.
1000 people have not received the vaccine and they are not sick.
1000 people got the vaccine.
1000 people got the virus and died.
1000 people got the virus and lived, and now have natural immunity.
1000 people got the virus, didn't know it, but still have natural immunity.
Worse case scenario.
Out of 5000 people
1000 are dead, so you don't have to worry about them. They have been removed from the equation.
That leaves 4000 people.
1000 with synthetic immunity, 2000 with natural immunity.
That leaves 1000 that should be just fine because no one has the virus so they can't spread what they don't have.
Now, even if one or all of the people in the unvaccinated and not sick group, do get the virus, they will become members of one of the other groups, and all will be well.
