Whomever appointed the judge is not, by itself, a cause for recusal. Look at the judge's record, not their appointer's record. Napolitano is as dumb as a box of bricks, but that does not mean everyone she appointed are also dumb as boxes of bricks. If the judge has a track record of inability to be objective and keep politics out of the case, then yes, a recusal is in order. In the absence of any such record, then not so much.
Also, having "ties to" a firm does not mean you have a finger in every pie they bake.
