It's hard to say how many came and went only leaving traces of  technological marvels in the sands  and dusts of time buried. But everything buried has a habit of surfacing sometime in the future. Many wondering how such great monolithic stones were moved, shaped and placed. The Nazca Lines


Oregon Desert.




And where did they go ? Did they have technologies that dwarfed our modern times and will we achieve similar knowledges ? It could be that a number of these civilizations did surpass us and in doing so thought themselves as divine. Did they grow so advanced that it led to their destruction? It could of been that true divinity was dispatched to end such ambitions before the world was ultimately destroyed. Atlantis comes to mind, said to draw power from crystals

Wouldn't it be likely to think their destructions came from within? Those who discerned we were not Gods but instead were out of control. 
The Bible says six thousand years, scientists say six billion years old. The Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Paleogene in modern times.
And so our modern times had a beginning and ultimate end with no escape, like all those who went before.
