Two miles down?  Wouldn't people need pressure suits to come and go without getting the bends?

I've seen underground military facilities, but to the depth of a couple of stories, not MILES.

The Germans liked tunnels and underground facilities.  There were still remnants of those in and around the U.S. bases in Germany that were taken over in 1945.

I understand there is higher atmospheric pressure below earth, particularly from sea level.  The pressure would depend at what elevation an underground base was excavated.  For example, a tunnel into the earth from lets say, commenced downward 10,000 feet above mean sea level would have much the same pressure at the bottom as we experience at ocean level.

Pressure can be regulated of course at different levels.
