Might be that. It also might be the Marxists jumping the gun on the inevitable purges that always follow a communist takeover, where they turn on each other and line their supporters up for the firing squad. That always happens in a communist takeover (the supporters are the ones who know how to make a takeover happen, so they are suddenly threats to the Top Dawgs), and I don't understand why anyone would support them knowing they too will eventually get the blindfold and the last cigarette.
Now, if THAT is the case, they didn't read the part of the manual where it says you have to takeover first, THEN purge...
