Remember the movie Enemy of the State with Gene Hackman? We're there. If not further ahead, even.
There are cameras everywhere, even on damn door bells, our cellular phones are collecting data like never before, our Intelligent TVs are collecting data, Siri, Alexis, Google are all collecting data, our computers, laptops, tablets are all collecting data, whether you're aware of it or not. Data is being collected, worldwide, like never before in our human history.
A Planetary Computer / combined with AI / will only serve to offer advice on what the best course of action is with all of that data, worldwide.
And when it comes to decisions concerning the masses, we never win. Never. It's always cuts, restraints and new alleged safety measures. All perfectly marketed to make you believe it's for your own good, when its real target is to acquire more control.
It's never on an individual level. Never. Forget the individual. An individual alone has no power. None.
And, as you say, it's always beyond our control.
It IS scary.

I wish I could just put stars and flags all over your post here. This is exactly right and everyone needs to know this. I remember seeing Enemy of the State when it first came out and thinking that if that could really be done then this world wouldn't be fit to live in. You are spot on though, the common man has no hope of living out his life making his own choices and being anything like free. I think we're way past the point of no return myself, fortunately I'm old but I have young children and grandchildren that I worry about.
