That's a possibility. There is a reason the new owners wanted to remain anonymous, and that may have been to minimize repercussions against them when they bought it up just to crap it out. Some tech giants have really deep pockets - Facebook, Google, and Microsoft come to mind. They could afford to eat a site that was burning their narratives just to squelch it.
