Some of it has to be paranoia that someone has spotted a black project and may have goods to spill about it.

But the guv fixation on UFO people is bizarre.

There are also the assertions that many of the big authors have ties to the intel community.  No wonder that area of interest is so full of dead ends and circular routes.
