I think it's awesome when people keep old skills alive, we could all be so much more self sufficient.
The sticking point right now is the percussion caps. I can make mercury fulminate, but I don't yet know how to make the little caps to hold it. That's why Indians preferred flintlocks in their trade guns - they could make their own flints, but couldn't make the caps for the cap fire guns.
