Police officers who will work in the new station building in Rinkeby will be protected by special patrols when they stop working during late evening shifts and after night shifts. This is to protect the employed police officers who will start working in the police station in September.

The new police station in Rinkeby in northern Stockholm is complete and during September, 200 police officers and 80 office employees will start working on the premises.
But several police officers have expressed concern about having to go home at night themselves and after a risk analysis done by the police management together with the union, a decision has been made about special security personnel.
- Our external staff intervenes daily against the criminal network environments and people with large violent capital. Is it then a patrol that after they reported at night and do not have a car to get home with, then it is not good to go down the subway alone, says Frida Nordlöf.
Construction start was delayed
The old police house in Rinkeby closed in 2014, but the new construction was delayed because no company wanted to build the station due to feared threats against the construction staff. The area was very noisy for a few years and several police officers were also hesitant to apply for the new police station. But now it's done.
- It has been the biggest issue for employees because they want to be safe at work. But on the other hand, we police officers are exposed to violence and threats at all police stations throughout Sweden, so there is always a security concern, says Patrik Gustafsson, chief safety representative for the police in Stockholm North, to SVT News.
According to the police, Rinkeby is also a completely different area compared to a few years ago.
- It takes time to build a police station and in 2016 we had social unrest here in Rinkeby. Then it was quite grim to go out with a radio car. That situation has changed and after several social initiatives, we have come much closer to the citizens, says Patrik Gustafsson.
The police believe that it is better to take into account any incidents in advance.
- It is better to be prepared than to adjust afterwards. We hope that this protection patrol is not needed and that we avoid attacks on us, our vehicles and the police station, says Frida Nordlöf.
