I think the large lizard was sent to warn you to stay away. When it saw it couldn't deter you, it moved on... come what may.
As I said before, I think you entered a "time warp" and crossed into another dimension. It wasn't until you both got angry that your vibrations balanced out to where you could both see each other in this dimension.
Why were you led there? This is what I can't answer, but there was a reason.
