3. I auditioned as the new drummer for .38 Special.
Claim #3.
Will you describe in detail, your actual audition?
Woody and I went to Don Barnes’s house and went out to his garage to jam for a few hours. I had no idea what to expect just having met the guy the week beforehand, so I was just along for the ride. We played All Along the Watchtower and Manic Depression. Although Woody played “the lead” on the harmonica so it was a little weird. We shot the bull for a bit while Woody and Barnes caught up with one another. Next thing I know, I’m pouring 7&7’s. Some more BSing and then Dock of the Bay, Prince’s Housequake of all things and then Rocky Top when Woody mentioned I went to UT. More drinking and BSing after that. And that is when he said Hold On Loosely. I stopped halfway through the first chorus because “damn, he sounded really spot on.” Up until that moment in time I had no idea who he was and just figured that he and Woody were in a garage band together back in high school. It was then I was informed that I was being auditioned because Meeder was out. I busted out laughing and told him what I had thought.
Could have knocked me over with a feather. But that was when I told him about knowing Burns. Which made Barnes laugh.
@Beez ... you wise ol' Bunny!!
Question 3: Were you ready? I mean ... .38 Special. People would take that gig just for their name to be in the spotlight. But, actually being picked!! That's a radical change to the direction of anyone's life. So ... did you 'feel' that? Were you ready?
'Cause if they catch you in the back seat trying to pick her locks
They're gonna send you back to Mother in a cardboard box
You better run!
