The way my joints and back feel anymore, you could convince me I'm very old. ?
Yep, I remember the OD fatigues. The BDUs were more practical, but the fatigues looked sharper in some ways. I recall the first version of BDUs were what was later called "winter weight" . . . man, that uniform was HOT in the southern states during summer.
I was lucky when I came in. Our commanders were Vietnam veterans. People who superbly combined good order and discipline with common sense.
ETA: I believe I recall the run in boots was three miles when I started. Not good for the feet.
