Latest S2 Update on Ukraine
#1
ETA: Found a great background video for the situation in Ukraine. Guess what? It's about (mostly) oil and natural gas! Who saw that coming?

In hopes no one shoots their television because the talking heads are so full of it.

Here is some sound updates on the situation... or at least as updated as you are going to find. Not too many big-mouthed politicians or news anchors in the combat zone trying to get a bead on things. Imagine that.

From yesterday...

Thanks for the update.

My thoughts go out to all in Ukraine.

I am guessing it looks like most folks are better off staying put and digging in for the long haul. If I was in their place, that's what I would do. Although living next to military or other important targets may not be healthy.

Males 18-60 can't leave the country anyway.

Look, sorry. I gotta put this out there in today's equal gender, humanistic discipline, if you like.

Why males.

My question,

Bally?

@"Bally002"

Because the "woke curtain" ends somewhere in central Europe and eastern Europe thinks woke notions are asinine.  They're getting the women and children out before the men.

Sounds like a way of living I recall in the distant past.

---

I liked the response of the Ukrainian leader when the USA offered to evacuate him.

A good response.

Bit clearer.

If this is true , it shows what they think a lot.

I see Cav beat me to it. Ukraine is under marshal law. All males of fighting age now have a new job.

I have a lot of opinions on this but I will keep silent as best as I can on the matter.

Putin said Ukraine is a puppet of the west, so he's invading to try and make Ukraine a puppet of Russia.

I grew up with a few Ukrainian friends.  Them, and their families, were some of the best people I've known.  I wish them the best, and I love hearing these stories of Snake Island where the soldiers told a Russian warship to "fuck yourself."  Also the Ukrainian marine who blew himself up along with a bridge to stop advancing Russian tanks.

Ukraine has everything to fight for.  The Russian troops do not.  They can only do so much and need some help.

I think what we're seeing now is failure of the Russian plan.

IMO, they intended to seize Kiev like they did Prague in 1968 -- with airborne troops and special forces.

Worked back then, this time, the airborne unit got surrounded and eliminated.  So the Ukrainian government still stands.

Now Russia has a new situation.  They have superiority in numbers (and, critically, in aircraft), and will now have to conquer Kiev with their conventional mechanized troops who seem none too motivated.

Meanwhile, Kiev is arming civilians, handing out automatic weapons, and readying Molotov cocktails.

It is going to be bloody.

Cheers

One of the better videos... It really is about oil, gas, and money

I wouldn't actually shoot the TV, because the noise might wake Grace up, but I have been, upon occasion, known to throw a combat boot at troublesome technology, which would likely not be beneficial to the television.

Now reports like the first (second?) one are straight news, which is what we are NOT getting from the MSM and it's talking heads, including Fox. Fox has recently grown so many talking heads that are rooting for war that I've taken to watching 60 year old sitcoms rather than the "news".

I detect a faint note of sarcasm in the second third?) video, but again he is reporting, rather than cheer-leading to get a war on, so I'm good with it.

I live in constant fear now that folks will assume I am anti-war, and therefore some kind of hippie, because pf the stance I've taken. I'm sure the long hair and beard are not helping, but it is what it is, and I will remain what I remain. I'm not anti-war, I'm just against sending other people's kids to die in a war they've got no business meddling in while Rome burns down at home and no one pays any attention to it. And the same folks who send those kids out to die in other folks wars are making bank off selling weapons to both sides. Yeah, that kinda gets under my skin.

So go ahead and peddle weapons to the Ukraine. Let Ukrainians defend their own turf, and just shovel weapons at them until the banks run dry... but don't agitate for the US to take a hawkish stance in affairs that are none of our concern.

Some times, you've got to fight, and when you do, you fight hard and fight to win or die. This situation ain't one of those times for the US. While indeed it IS a life or death fight for the Ukraine, death is the only option available to the US, especially with that pussified lunatic BidenHarris at the steering wheel. His mouth has a bad habit of writing checks his ass can't cash. When that bluff gets called, shit gets real.

I'm gonna slide that video into the propaganda column. If those are going in with the Russian troops, they are not likely FOR the Russian troops. Mama Babushka doesn't want sonny coming home in a cardboard coffin, but she sure as hell don't wanting him to come home as a pinch of ashes in a vial on a chain she can wear around her neck. They cannot "hide" combat losses - eventually, someone in the family is going to notice that Sonny never came back from the wars all those years ago.

So my guess is that if those are going in, they are going in for Ukrainian casualties, particularly civilian casualties. That way, Putin can say "Civilian deaths? WHAT civilian deaths? Show me the bodies, or at least the mass graves, comrade!"

i dont agree it`s because oil, gas, money as main reason.

Putin has talked how he would like to have Russia as were in time of Russian empire ( not soviet union )

So he wants to restore ,build back the empire . That means also getting land areas,  by force if necessary. Putin is evil dictator and live in he`s own bubble...where he creates he`s own reality .

I think it would be just as bad for Putin, and possibly worse, if too many soldiers never came back at all, and no one could find out what happened to their little boys. Massive troop losses are not something you can hide forever - almost all of them have families back home waiting for news. Now, if he gets cold busted trying to say Little Ivan never came home because Little Ivan never went to war, or never existed, things will go hard for him.

I recall how the "Deseperciados" brought down entire regimes in Central America by simply vanishing without any explanation.

IMHO, oil is not the main reason but an important one in a host of considerations made by Putin.

Without Ukraine charging big tariffs, the Russian state keeps a lot more money. Without Ukraine developing their own oil production infrastructure (read: western companies staffed by powerful elites children) Russian keeps the funds flowing. If Russia gets a hold of those NG and oil deposits, they further their own hold on the production/market. With a strong share of the EU gas market, they have leverage in international affairs.

I agree Putin has dreams of a renewed Russian empire. One can attribute that to perceived safety from invasion or simply more power/control.

The two are not exclusive. They work together. Look at Belarus.

I am not cheerleading for Putin, just making observations from the data presented.

I feel bad for the people of Ukraine. They were turned into the focus of this mess by certain portions of the US and EU who will leave them high and dry to face the Russians alone.

I feel bad also for the people of Ukraine . Yeeh i think you are right about oil/gas that is also on their dreams and effecting decisions.

My country, Finland was before part of Russian empire.....so i really dont like the mindset Putin seems to have.

I agree Ukraine is a long way away and none of the average American's business. Now, all the s***bag elites who had their children on boards of phony oil companies to launder money, they can get on the next thing smokin' to Kiev. They owe it to the average Ukrainian who now bears the weight of all this. But of course they will be silent on the matter.

Russia is not blameless. They invaded another country. That stands.

What is surprising (not) to me are all my more Lefty/Wokie friends who now have Ukraine flags posted all over FB and are suddenly pro-war with Putin. They are now pro-2A with the free AK's to everybody on the street in Kiev. Almost like they got their orders to post the exact same thing at the exact same time. It's already Putin's fault for climate change, turbo inflation, and truckers protesting. I want to ask them how does it feel to be a stooge in that PSYOP but it isn't worth the effort.
