3. I auditioned as the new drummer for .38 Special.

Claim #3.

Will you describe in detail, your actual audition?

Woody and I went to Don Barnes’s house and went out to his garage to jam for a few hours. I had no idea what to expect just having met the guy the week beforehand, so I was just along for the ride. We played All Along the Watchtower and Manic Depression. Although Woody played “the lead” on the harmonica so it was a little weird. We shot the bull for a bit while Woody and Barnes caught up with one another. Next thing I know, I’m pouring 7&7’s. Some more BSing and then Dock of the Bay, Prince’s Housequake of all things and then Rocky Top when Woody mentioned I went to UT. More drinking and BSing after that. And that is when he said Hold On Loosely. I stopped halfway through the first chorus because “damn, he sounded really spot on.” Up until that moment in time I had no idea who he was and just figured that he and Woody were in a garage band together back in high school. It was then I was informed that I was being auditioned because Meeder was out. I busted out laughing and told him what I had thought.

Could have knocked me over with a feather. But that was when I told him about knowing Burns. Which made Barnes laugh.

@Beez ... you wise ol' Bunny!!

Question 3:  Were you ready?  I mean ... .38 Special.  People would take that gig just for their name to be in the spotlight.  But, actually being picked!!  That's a radical change to the direction of anyone's life.  So ... did you 'feel' that?  Were you ready?

Now that is an interesting question. If you mean was I ready for the fame, absolutely. But if you mean was I ready to give up on acting and be known as a musician...no, I was not. Hoffman was. I have no regrets about not being offered the gig, because it isn’t what I wanted. And that I think is why I wasn’t. I think Barnes knew it was just a gig to me and not a true commitment. It would have been a temptation had it been offered. But I honestly think I would had turned it down just like I did that porno. Because doing porn kills you chances of getting into real films.

As it was, jamming with the lead singer of .38 Special was good enough. To know that I was seriously being looked at was icing on the cake. Which I can explain more at the end, because two of these things are true and one is false. Explaining that statement now might skew the results. But I can say this much about fame...it is isn’t so much your talent but how many people believe your are famous and spread the word to others.

My deductive reasoning is to claim, at this time. . . . . . Claim #3 is false.

This is fun and difficult at the same time.

I believe you performed/played with .38 Special, but I do not believe that you auditioned for them.

I can 'feel' that.  I 'got to play' while Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen sang.  Bruce took my guitar away from me ... LOL.  And I embarrassed myself in front of Bon Jovi once.  My face is beet red thinking about it ATM.  Hey!!  Life is short ... and good!!

This is fun and difficult at the same time.

I believe you performed/played with .38 Special, but I do not believe that you auditioned for them.

I leaned hard on that ... but since that answer belongs exclusively to you ...

Ahabstar might have slipped-up in the middle of the thread ...
Quote:When I made the decision to withdraw from UT as I could not schedule required theater classes for the second semester in a row. Dr. Julian chewed me out for not coming to him first. And that was when the full ride was offered in exchange for changing my major from theatre to music.

... a partial truth?  Leaves me with: 1. I was offered a four year full ride scholarship at The University of Tennessee from the band director.

The questions have been asked and answered. The decisions have been made by the players. We should give the spectators a chance to weigh in.

Fun game!

Just for spits and googles, I'm going to say I think the bunny is right. Why? No mention of Van Zant, for one thing... Donnie is one of the lead singers and co-leader of the band, so I doubt any audition that doesn't include him. Also, you know Bob Burns? The original drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd? I didn't think Ahabstar had spent that much time in the South.

I'd have so many more questions lol

But I am also siding with Beez on this one, for this reason here:

Quote:But I honestly think I would had turned it down just like I did that porno. Because doing porn kills you chances of getting into real films.

You turned down porn huh? It feels like you're pushing the lie towards a feeling of "hey...if you believe this...I've got a bridge to sell..."

But if it's the truth, I shall call you Ron Jeremy from now on. tinylaughing

#3 is the lie.

It was a great game, fun and interesting!!!

I will change the announcement to see if other members would like to chime in...

You cannot have a Southern Rock 101 discussion without the Van Zants. Ronnie was in Skynyrd until his untimely death. Donnie was his younger brother and the lead for .38 Special. Bob Burns was indeed he original drummer and came into the barbecue restaurant frequently. He would sign autographs and even talk with people after eating provided they didn’t dwell on Skynyrd or any talking about the crash.

As for the other part, you’ve never done nor heard of a multipart interview? Or in slightly different terms, you have to get past the casting director before you get to the director.

You forgot the youngest brother, Johnny, who started with his own recordings as lead vocalist for the Johnny Van Zant Band, and now does lead vocals for Skynyrd. He also teamed up with Donnie in the band Van Zant.

They're all three slightly different, but all three have that basic Van Zant sound. I wish Ronnie had survived; there will never be anyone else with his style and sound. But, he didn't, and Johnny makes the best replacement I can imagine. I've heard him sing Free Bird live... and there is no one else I would accept to do so. That was Ronnie's song.

I guess it's a good thing Snarl didn't ask you to go jump off a bridge... tinytongue

You should try it at some point, the game, not jumping off a bridge.

And how dare you call me a liar? It's ironic, my old Iranian boss was a pathological liar and that's exactly what he'd say when we'd catch him back pedaling on a lie. How dare you call me a liar?!?!?

Maybe I did learn something from the guy after all.. but mine are little white lies... tinybiggrin
