A discovery about rating posts
#1
I have just discovered that rating posts actually does work but I have found out why it doesn't look like it does.

If you are on a desktop browser and click the rate button, it appears to freeze the screen BUT WAIT!!!

If you hold your CTRL key and roll you mouse wheel to zoom out, like really zoom out, you can see the tiny rating box down in the bottom left corner. This also might work for those with login box issues?

Now that I have figured out the screen isn't actually freezing, on my test site I will try to figure out how to position the rating box so you can see it.

If this temporary solution works for you, rate me, baby!  tinybiggrin lol

After installing MyBB on my test site, (https://dooberville.com/Test/) tinkering with it for a few days and seeing how hard it is and what is involved, I have gained a YUUUGE appreciation for the hard work that is being done here and the skill and hours that have been put in so we can keep on Rogue'in!

i got to thinking about what you wrote, then it dawned on me that when all this about rating and login boxes first statrted Snarl had said something about resizing the screen, Fot those using firefox, and maybe others Zoom in / out. if you zoom out like to real tiny mine is down to 50% you can see the box.

for us older folks that may have failing reading eyesight it's gonna be tuff to read. just to test i rated your post.

ETA: although i can see the box for log in, it still makes me do it at least twice

Thanks for the rating!

I've also noticed that clicking the "get more" link on the smiles does the same thing. Zoom a million miles out and you can kind of see the extra ones down in the bottom left corner.

Hopefully soon I will be able to help figure out some of these issues? I've tried to set up my testing site to be as much like RN3 as I can but there's still a long way to go. I'm using most of the same plugins and the Dark 1.8 theme but the My Alerts thing breaks things so I've left that out for now. I even have a Shoutbox sort of working. Editing the postbit so it shows avatars like here is what I'm going to dig into next but that's going to be hard and take a lot of trial and error.

My stuff is all going to go away once RN3 gets sorted. I know the rating thing has to do with something buried in one of the templates somewhere and I wonder if the logging in issue is also connected?

Folks are welcome to sign up and check it out if you're interested. Feel free to post nonsense https://dooberville.com/Test/

<ETA?
it's 7:45 in the morning and I've been messing with this all night. Time for some shut eye!

It didn't work for me, either. I zoomed out as far as it would go, to 30%, never got the rate box.

Said Aristippus, ‘If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.’ Said Diogenes, ‘Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.’

That worked! However, like the others, I wasn't able to see it by zooming out because too many posts were under your initial one at the top. Since I couldn't scroll, I tabbed through until I was down to the bottom of the page then zoomed out a little and was able to see it that way. ^_^

Ah, that worked. Only had to zoom out to 80% and hit the tab key a few (dozen) times.

Yeah, tabbing is a little tedious, but its nice to be able to rate again!

I have solved this issue by not rating anything and not adding any reputation to anyone.

Then when the site issues are fixed, i will go manic about rating everything and everyone.
