So, I've been a very busy bee...
#1
Before all the chaos happening recently I decided to use some scraps I had laying around the house to try my hand at making a cute, huggable voodoo doll. I first made a "pattern" doll (baby doll sized) and then made some smaller dolls from other scraps I found deep in one of my craft totes. At the time I was just doing it for funzies but lo and behold they have turned into a little side money venture!

I posted my pattern doll around here somewhere (I think on one of Violet Dove's threads) and also on FB. It was kind of cute and creepy and got a good reception from my friends and family so I upped my game and made some nicer ones that turned out super cute but took way too much time- so I made a new pattern and tried some smaller ones. People started inboxing me and I unexpectedly sold some. So I went and hit the summer fabric clearance sale and made some more and have sold a few of them so I put an ad on Marketplace to hopefully sell some more. The very first sale more than paid for materials (and even subsequent trips for supplies). Any dolls left over will serve as gifts for birthdays, etc. so none will go to waste.

Anyway, I thought I would share the progression of my new hobby through some "Before and After" pics and hopefully the site wont crash again before I get them posted.

I hope you all found some fun things to keep you occupied during the "Dark Times" as well!

Now for pics!
Here are the before and after pics of the babydoll sized doll:

Hope y'all had fun too!

They are all really cute. I love the zebra dolls. They remind me of my niece that was called a half breed zebra by an unhappy grandparent on the other side of her family. I had a little talk with her, she now laughs about it, and the zebra thing has become a private joke we share.

I am so glad that it all worked out so well for you. I have been using the walkathons for helping me get back into my walking routine, and to get me back to my full measure of health. To help kill the time while RN was down, I am refreshing my Morse code skills. No nearly back to where I used to be, and surely not ready to put my hands on a transmitter, but I am getting there.

For every one person that read this post. About 7.99 billion have not.

Yet I still post.  tinyinlove

Walking is always good, but refreshing your Morse Code skills is a most excellent idea! Secret code that the younger generations haven't a clue about might come in real handy in the not so distant future- well, except for scouts if they still teach them that. About the only code I remember is for S.O.S.  I think light and flag codes might be a good skill as well since mostly only sailors understand and I doubt many of them even do anymore.

@"GeauxHomeLittleD" those all turned out so cute!

I kept myself busy doing yard work and putting some Halloween decorations up. Somehow with all that extra time I had I also got my house really clean.

When I was able to get back on here I mentioned to my husband that the site was back up and he said hmmm so that’s what’s been wrong with you  tinylaughing

I know I should have been doing housework but I just couldn't make myself want to! I'll do the daily stuff like cook, bag up the trash, make the bed and pick up a bit but making dolls gives me an excuse to let the other stuff pile up until one of us gets sick of the mess and loads the dishwasher or scrubs the toilet. The bath/shower enclosure is starting to get pretty scary!  tinysurprised I'll just take my glasses off, yeah that will fix things... so pretty now! lol!

Those are really cute! It's awesome that you're making money off of them too. Pretty neat hobby there.

That sounds like something I’d do. Sometimes when the dust piles up in here I’ll only turn on a small lamp. Then it’s sort of dark and I can’t tell if it’s dusty or not. I hate dust but I hate dusting more. I have air purifiers but there is a rock quarry nearby and with no rain the ground has been powder. The poor old purifiers can’t keep up and I’m just not gonna dust everyday so the lamp thing works well for me.

It’s much more fun to do something we enjoy.

You and @GeauxHomeLittleD are helping reduce my guilt. The dust this year has been insane. Living off miles of dirt roads, is hard enough, but the Sahara sands were worst than ever.

I bought an air purifier, spent more than I wanted to for it, and it could not keep up to the task. I did not want to spend that kind of money again, so I went to google for help, and found this video. There are tons of other videos but the idea is about the same with all of them.

I bought two 20" box fans at Lowes, cheap, the filters were about $25.00 each. I tried in the front and in the back. I prefer them in the back. I am very happy with their performance, and ecstatic with the price.

It doesn't completely remove the need for household chores, just makes you feel better about the lag time.

Glad I could help take away some of that guilt lol.

I think we all know I’m about to go look for those filters...I’ll try just about anything to help with this dust. I actually cleaned my ceiling fans today and I’m pretty sure I could have sprouted seeds on them with all that dust.  tinysurprised Maybe next time I should just keep them on so I can’t see it.

Well, damn! I did not know that you are artistic and skilled like that! Way to go!

A hobby like that would be great. I mostly spend my time online, trying to change the world via constant bitching about the state of affairs. That does not seem to be productive. Only leaves me pissed off about the state of affairs.

I have lots of hobbies but I'm always trying my hand at something new lest I drive myself (and Kdog) insane. If I didn't I would spend all my time online getting pissed off- not exactly good for my health. When I find myself online too much I look for something new to try for a while and you don't see me here very much except just popping in to see what's new.

That is a healthy approach. I don't even know why i voluntarily dwell in shit. Murders and wars and injustice. Evil stuff.
