I see your reading habits haven't improved. Can you at least still make snails?
Woo Woo!!! I'm here...I made it!!  I think. It's good to at least be somehwere I guess so hello to all.
Hi folks i just got here, thank you Senona and Guohua. ATS  has been my home since 2008 so came here as a refugee, although it seems to be back online now. I'm going to put it down to fate, if ATS had not gone down, i never would have been directed here, which from a quick browse through, it seems a more chilled and friendly place.
As i've heard others say, ATS feels like its got too political lately and i long for the old UFO and conspiracy stuff.

I am unsure about a whole introduction thread, seems this is the place to post, so I will just put it here:

My nickname is TDDA, it stands for ThatDamnDuckAgain, an insider joke on some ducks that broke out one day somewhere, kept seeing ducks for days everywhere and one didn't stop turning up at my patio. And I had to pick a username. Here I just chose the short form, because there is no cursing and many just call me TDDA or Ducky anyways.

I live in South Germany, come from a family where learning was upheld and encouraged and therefore also like to share knowledge. I am proud of my heritage but not the history of my country. It is tradition to learn the old way of writing and German language. Therefor I may be useful in decipher old texts that go way beyond 1800 written in a different set of letters all together. My interest in language and meaning of words is strong. Partly because my mother was following old Germanic-Pagan teachings, that I found myself naturally be drawn towards more and more. I could never ask her about it as my parents died before I was old enough to understand what she was doing. It has all the elements I always thought life would make most sense with, just that I read about them in those old writings afterwards what I always felt was true. You won't get me to argue for or against my or your faith. I always appreciate a respectful non dogmatic exchange of opinion and share of viewpoint though.

For a living, I build engines for race cars upwards past 500HP. BMW inline six cylinder and the Nissan RB26/28/30 series "Skylines" mostly. Drove some endurance and hill climb races myself but never made 1st. Loosers always say, they are in for the fun, but I was in for the adrenaline because I am addicted to it. I am very open about that. I also work part-time for a German sports car manufacturer as a race track instructor on the Nordschleife, to introduce the customers to their cars and show them how to handle the track. So it get my kick there.

Before I finished my master in motor vehicle engineering, I worked as a data analyst in grid management. Mostly PV power plant optimization, so I have some technical understanding about grid management and physics too. Beside that, I love all things I can do with my hands. Sewing, cooking and baking, lately drawing. Many more things that would just bloat this long post further more.

Oh one more thing though. I am used to people around me knowing that I can see tones and music as color and symbol flashes, so I tell you all straight forward. It's called synesthesia and comes with more strangeness but I did not know that myself, for most of my life. It's not a "condition" but just differently wired senses, a different kind of perception but also nothing special really (1 out of 10) and has nothing to do with intelligence. That means if people speak to me, I "see" their color of voice. People like me were invited to a study that and were offered/asked for help developing a haptic device for rehabilitating stroke victims. Sadly greed is a thing there too, had to decline because of the distances involved and the company expected me to cover these costs myself and that was a deal breaker. It was about a ball that has sensors inside and stroke victims would manipulate it and get a feedback. And that feedback, the type was thought to help them. Because stroke victims loose most of these connections that people like me have too much. So the idea was we could maybe find ways to help such victims. That was three years ago and never heard anything  about that project anymore sadly.

But I drift off, also a quality of mine :D

It's really nothing special and has more to do with my senses being wired up all together. As a kid I could taste pain even. All that is left now being 34 is the so called audio-visual and the space-time synesthesia mostly. I only found out a couple years ago accidental during a walk with a friend in the forest. It thought it's normal to see sound, at least with closed eyes I thought it's normal for everyone. For me, the darker it is, the better I pick it up. And it's not imagined or halucinating, during these EEG tests they tried to fiend out what stimuli fires what and it's clear that if I hear sounds, both regions of vision and hearing light up together simultan. I thought it's all normal.

Turns out it isn't. And then it came to me like an avalanche. All the strange encounters when I said things like "this hurts like strawberry" or "it was a high month". Or people not being able to remember all the details like smell, mood of persons and texture of situations. I was frustrated often. I thought why do people have so bad memory about situations while knowing my memory is not "better". "Dude you broke your leg that day and your mom was super pissed about your brother when we left before. It was a mild day smelled like spring and we didn't know what to do with our time. So.....(etc)"  Turns out I just record every sense into memory. That does not mean I do not forget stuff or can memorize like Rainmain, actually often I am feeling very dumb when someone explains something I know is mundane to others. I also memorize date and time in 3D space that's called "space-time" synesthesia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia

I expect a lot of people here finding themselves in this. 1/10 roughly. Just need to make them aware. It is passed down genetically too. Even my uncle had a form of it. I walked over 25 years over this Earth and had no idea. Like again, I can't stress enough, nothing to do with intelligence or better memory, just people like me access and store it different.

Designer would be a bit too much. Enhancer fit's better. While I could design an engine in theory and built one from scratch during my master exam, it would not make a lot of sense. I am the one taring it apart, change stroke, get crankshaft balanced, check tolerances, cylinder geometry, pistons, hone, set sleeves (+50 other things), whatever needs to be done and put it back together, mount it (with help), map it etc. The only things I design are my custom turbo chargers but the single parts I of course buy or let build to specs and modify, then assemble.

It's not easy as a woman though, you get all kind of shit to hear. From the old "omg a woman behind a wheel" to "you get it back with lipstick" over "where is the mechanic / owner of this shop" and stuff. The only thing that helps is showing them time after time you are better than they are. It was the same in the instructor course, I was the only woman. "Hahahah" - I heard all the jokes, nodded, thought "assholes -> I show you" and graduated best in class and showed them their place. THAT is something I am proud of most :D
Another ATS refugee here, with a clean start... So far I must admit that I'm liking this place more.

Did a second post for oversight. This is very interesting, I already thought something into that direction. I would be a liar if I said I had a lot of contact with the Chinese culture but my uncle was sometimes in China and always brought some memories with him and sometimes huge firework that would be hung from a tree and began to spin after igniting. Or the eggs. :D

I am not educated enough about Chinese culture, but I know about the one child rule and can only try grasping what that meant for you, personally. My uncle also had guests over from China for a few days and served pizza one time but forgot that he was told before many Chinese won't eat cheese. IDK exactly why to be honest. So basically he was trying to save face and put scrambled egg on the pizza to at least make it look what he showed them before. And each year for two years in a row they wanted to eat that pizza and he always had to put scrambled egg instead of cheese on top to not admit he almost served cheese to them. But they knew and told him like in the third year that they now know he does a special pizza for them because they went to an Italian restaurant themselves.

I never believed that none of the Chinese visitors got it that it's egg and not cheese. I thought they were just polite but could not say anything because of some cultural respect or similar.

That is Funny about the Scrambled Eggs.
No, most Chinese from the North like me (Harbin) will not eat Chesses, It is believed the Fatty Creams in the chesses will case what we call in English "Middle Jell" a coldness in your stomach and intestines, which will lead to weight gain and slow your heart.
1000 year old egg or Black egg is much better for you.
The 1000 year old egg is not really that old  smallroflmao , No it is boiled in very specials Herbs and then place or packed in hay or grass for 3 days.
Black eggs are also boiled in a special herb.
All the eggs most Chinese eat will be Free Range and the Brown egg or Duck eggs if you can find them.

When my husband orders Pizza, mine has no chesses, but tomato, pineapple and pepperoni.

Hi, I don't know what I'm doing here yet, but glad to be here!  Feeling positive vibes already.  Just thought I would try to post a response since I chanced across this thread.  Sort of a test.  I am having a little difficulty setting up my profile so here goes...
Also I wanted to say hi to all the ATS people I'm seeing here... some of my favorite posters all over this place. Maybe I won't feel so intimidated and want to engage a little here. It seems like a good place for it.
