Sanford was dating the couple's adopted daughter, Miriam Potter Carre, and the younger pair were recently
kicked out of the family home because they weren't following "social distancing rules", according to police.
It is alleged that Miriam was angry at her mum and dad and was last month overheard telling Sanford at school
that her parents had "bands" of money and were "rich".
Sanford and Larrue have been charged with first-degree intentional homicide for their alleged roles in the
"calculated" and "brutal execution", say police in the US city of Madison, Wisconsin.
Sanford could also face an added penalty if convicted of carrying out the killings with a dangerous weapon,
NBC News reported.
Investigators have accused Miriam of lying to police when she was asked where she and Sanford were on the
night of March 30. She claimed they had spent the night at an Airbnb rental - where they were forced to stay after
being kicked out of her parents' home - and went to bed after watching a film.
However, CCTV showed a van that appeared similar to hers close to the crime scene, according to police.
Miriam has not been charged with a crime.
A jogger found the the parents' bodies in a ditch on the grounds of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum,
an ecological research facility. Dr Potter, who worked at the university, was taking medication for a medical condition
and that put her at greater risk during the coronavirus pandemic, heightening the need for social distancing, according
to investigators. Her husband was an independent educational consultant.
Miriam and Sanford weren't following social distancing rules aimed at protecting her mother, so her parents told them
to leave the house and moved them to an Airbnb. Just hours before the couple was executed, Dr Potter told a friend that
Miriam was upset and told the parents during the move “You don’t care about me” and “You don’t talk to me"...'
