Post First World War Germany was hit by one of the worst cases of hyperinflation in recent history. The German mark fell from 4.2 marks to the dollar to 8.91 marks per dollar during the First World War but paying war reparations caused an economic collapse with the exchange rate rising to 4,200,000,000,000 marks per dollar by the end of 1923.

In the book, "Nuremberg, Infamy On Trial" the cross examination of Herman Goering regarding how and why they eliminated the Weimar Republic is illuminating. Sounds very much like the Democrats of today.

By 1924, post WW1 Germany's economy had stabilized and crime began to decline. This era was known as the "Golden Years" of Weimar. Berlin in particular saw a cultural explosion. The 1929 Crash and Great Depression which followed it, saw an end to democracy and the rise of fascism.

When I was about 15, I had to shoot my own dog for killing chickens. Sometimes in life, a man has to be able to shoot his own dog... and pap liked his chickens.

I think people who have understood what necessity amounts to, those would be the folks who survive SHTF.  It's how quick you could regain your footing and keep people back from your property.  People who can make friends with their neighbors ... and respect them. People who know and understand the value of their neighbors.

This stuff is long term.  Not like surviving a firefight a time or two.  But, making life work.
