That reminds me of something which occurred, allegedly, at the historic "vote of no confidence" in the House of Commons which helped bring Maggie Thatcher to power. One of the M.P.'s from Ulster (it would have to be an Irishman) had been boycotting the chamber for years as a form of protest about Ulster policy. I think he was on the Protestant side. But he saw this vote as such an important event that he suspended his boycott and made a special point of flying in to London "so that I can abstain in person".
