I could be wrong, but I believe those that take it to that extreme, are those that know nothing about what is going on. They are so afraid of what they don't know, that their imaginations take them into the land of the ridiculous.
They aren't listening to anyone, or even looking at the obvious.
Those are the ones that are the dangerous ones, because they have no ability to see reason, nor do they have the ability to process the obvious.
They will only do as they are told, because they think that frees them from responsibility. Plus it allows them to take the high road and gives them someone to blame.
