How much longer can the Government pay for people to stay at home
#1
I have been thinking about these things a lot, so I would like to share them and learn what other people  think about them.

At the moment governments all over Europe are closing Europe down and are pumping billions of euro into the economy trying to keep it afloat. What this means is that people are getting wages for doing nothing, firms are getting money for doing nothing. The longer this goes on the larger the amount of money used. At some point the money will run out, then what. (think along the lines of Venezuela )
Thing is all this money will have to be paid back with interest, that means when things start up again, smaller wages, longer work hours smaller or no benefits. No more holidays 2 or 3 times a year, no new cars, no going out every night, large unemployment, much much smaller safety net provided by the government if you dont have a job, very poor health care. This will take a very long time to pass, perhaps 20 years or more before we are back to the same level of living as now.
Yes closing Europe down is slowing the spread of the virus and saving lives, but if it continues much longer we risk all of Europe becoming like Venezuela, even if it does not get that bad because the countries have no money left, health care will suffer and many many more people will die because of this than the virus will kill.
So should we just close down for a short time, then get back to work, with the knowledge there will soon be a vaccine and better treatment, yes people will die, perhaps a lot of people will die but a hell of a lot less people than if Europe is driven to bankruptcy.
So what do people think should be done ?

Many, Many, Many Thousands of people in American have been laid off without Pay.
The Las Vegas Casinos are all closed and most of all the down town large shops and stores are closed.

Many restaurants in Phoenix are closed, the Burger places only have their drive thru opened no one is allowed to set and eat inside.
The American workers home without an income are still having bills delivered in the mail everyday.

I did read how the people of Norway are without work too.

OSLO, March 24 (Reuters) - Norway's unemployment rate soared five-fold this month to above 10%, its highest level since the 1930s, as companies announced mass layoffs and shutdowns amid efforts to combat the coronavirus outbreak, data showed on Tuesday.
Tens of thousands of job cuts have been announced every day, although many of the layoffs are expected to be temporary and resulted from companies taking advantage of an emergency scheme to cut the mandatory redundancy notice period to just two days from two weeks.
The country's Labour and Welfare Agency (NAV) said registered unemployment had risen to 10.9% as of Tuesday, up from 5.3% a week ago and from just 2.3% at the end of February.
Private-sector activity outside of the oil industry is expected to contract by between 15% and 20% in the near term, the government predicted on Friday.
"The development of the last two weeks is without comparison," NAV chief Sigrun Vaageng said in a statement.
Norway has confirmed 2,566 people infected with the coronavirus, of whom 12 have died.
The Norwegian parliament has approved loans, tax deferments and extra spending of up to 280 billion Norwegian crowns ($25.25 billion) to alleviate the impact of the crisis, while the central bank slashed its benchmark interest rate twice, from 1.5% to a record low 0.25%.
The government will pick up the bulk of the tab for redundancy payments, and has also introduced more generous unemployment benefits than usual.

And that's the real answer, self-responsibility and community-responsibility.

For too long, those who've abused the echelon-area of power have taught the last couple of generations
(maybe more) to look to their Government for everyday, sensible answers.

They frowned on family unity, on community spirit and on parents holding the power. They said sit and listen
to the TV and believe everything we say, for we're here to help you. And so, you have a blind frightened herd
that cannot think for itself as an individual and at the same time, be part of a bigger whole.

Hopefully, this is a reset. (Fingers crossed)

Yes, @BIAD, I keep hearing people say President Trump will use this to reset our money back to the gold standard. I'm not sure if it will be the same for Europe, but the world usually follows what the United States does, eventually.

Getting rid of the central bank is key to getting rid of the Deep State financial system.

@Wallfire, I believe we should give this another week or two of people staying home just to let it die down, and then send people back to work.

There should be a new set of rules in the work place, just as @guohua mentioned.  Stay clean, wash hands often, clean work space and door handles with cleaner often, etc.  Just start practicing better hygiene, period.

I also think if someone gets sick, they should be allowed to stay home until they aren't contagious without catching flak from their boss. Everyone will have to work together to win this fight.

More and more, I'm coming around to the belief that this virus was purpose-built as an economic wrecking ball. I believe it was designed, developed, and released by the PRC for the purpose of wrecking the US economy over trade disputes, and has caught the rest of the world in the fallout.

The PRC, never one to let a good crisis go to waste, is riding around the world like a white knight coming to everyone's rescue with personnel and supplies. I understand tht they have given heavy assistance to Iran, which is to be expected, given their close working relationship in better times.

I've already left instructions that, if I catch this bug, they should let me die before hooking me to a Chinese ventilator or accept Chinese assistance. I've never been one to allow someone to wreck my world and then look like the hero by saving what they've wrecked. I started getting wierd about that the instant that China offered to send the US N95 masks - I don't trust the masks, much less any other "help". I recall what the white folks did to the indians here with smallpox-laden blankets, and on top of that I generally refuse help from anyone anyhow, because I don't want to be left owing anyone anything at all.

It seems the economy can be strained, but I don't think it can currently be crashed altogether. With nothing to back money us other than "good faith", all governments will do is print more if it. that will likely lead to a few rounds of hyper inflation, but it won't tumble - it'll just stagger. I see vultures lining up for financial handouts here, people and companies who neither need nor deserve it, because they are still working. Cruise lines who sail under foreign flags to avoid paying US taxes are begging for money from the US government in the bailout, and I don't believe they have it coming to them - they should apply to the flags they fly for relief, not us. Everyone and his brother is salivating over the 1200 dollar or so "stimulus" payment, even those who are still going to work every day and aren't in any more of a bind than they were 3 weeks ago. As an aside, I will never, ever see one of those stimulus payments, so I really have no dog in that fight. I never got one when Bush handed them out in 2008, either.

So companies AND individuals are lining up to take advantage of the situation. Some have t coming, some don't, but nearly ALL are standing in line for it. I understand that some companies need assistance so they can weather the storm, so that there will be jobs available when the sun comes back out, but unless the government builds some kind of safeguards into the assistance, it will be eaten up by CEOs taking "golden parachutes" and leaving the companies just as soon as they get it - taking the money and running, leaving the company holding the bag like they did in 2008.

The PRC may have gotten the ball rolling, but WE are acting as our own worst enemies, exacerbating the matter. "Stimulus" packages should be more limited, based on actual needs rather than mere outstretched hands. "Assistance" from opponents should absolutely be refused - we don't need to ingratiate ourselves to folks without our best interests in mind at a time like this. They only thing I believe they are doing right at this time is initiating prophylactic measures like "social distancing" while simultaneously kicking vaccine research into high gear.

I have doubts that any of the economic measures being taken (or debated) are the right move, or else if they are they go too far and bail out folks who don't stand in need of it, while letting some folks who DO just fall right through the cracks. That is going to be far too expensive in the long run for economies to sustain in a healthy manner.

Im one of the oldies that was born during a polio epidemic, my childhood was during a smallpox out brake, and later an outbreak of TB. All of these are much worse than the C virus but every one just got on with life. Now they want to close down whole countries. In many ways I agree with Ninurta this virus is man made and is been used to hurt the USA and Europe. Its strange that the left/socialist and there supporters have not only helped to spread this virus but are doing everything they can to destroy the economy.
If the world does not get back to work then it will get bad, thing along the lines of Venezuela

Then it could be up to Vincenzo De Luca, the president of the Campania region of Italy to lead the way.
Er... but with a little less enthusiasm, eh?!

Quote:'We'll send the police with flamethrowers': Angry Italian politicians make outlandish threats to people
who break lockdown rules

*Governor of Campania threatened flamethrowers at rogue graduation parties
*Another mayor took to the streets to remonstrate with locals playing ping-pong
*Italy has been under a nationwide lockdown for two weeks to stop surge in cases

'Italian mayors and regional leaders have issued a barrage of angry threats to their own people in an
extraordinary effort to enforce the coronavirus lockdown. Vincenzo De Luca, president of the Campania
region, raged that he would send the police 'with flamethrowers' to break up any rogue graduation parties.

Another mayor took to the streets himself to remonstrate with locals who were playing ping-pong near the
beach and breaking Italy's rules against unnecessary ventures outside. Italy has been under a nationwide
lockdown for two weeks, but virus cases have continued to surge, prompting calls for even tougher
quarantine measures.

Vincenzo De Luca or to his friends, 'Thanos'!!

Regional president De Luca made his bizarre threat in a televised message in which he said: 'I'm getting
news that some would like to throw graduation parties. 'We will send the police over,' he added.
'With flamethrowers.'

Cateno De Luca, mayor of Messina, was equally uncompromising. In an impassioned Facebook tirade,
he said: 'You will not 'stroll' in my town. 'I can't formally ban you from leaving your house?
'I will ban you from setting foot on public soil unless for proven necessities.'
Antonio Decaro, the mayor of Bari, took to the seaside himself in order to send people back to their houses...'

I see the dark force of II Duce is strong in them. Strange how left/socialists behave just like fascists when they dont get what they want. The imports were running around spreading the virus but nothing was said or done to stop them
