I once thought after retirement I would sail around the world and I had many great adventures sailing the gulf of Mexico before retirement.
Well, water spouts, sharks, and big storms made me decide it is better to fly than be at the mercy of the ocean if I want to go someplace. I did like to sail in stormy/windy conditions as I like the wind filling my sails as I liked stuff like that. I never sailed the Atlantic or the Pacific and maybe that is why I am still alive today ?? hahahah I do have friends who spent a lifetime on big ships sailing the world so you gotta be at the right place at the right time to get Poseidon's revenge ... A 40 foot sail boat against something like these waves will produce fish food out of your butt, IMO !!
