Most Americans know he was shot down during WW 2
#3
I waatched that ages ago and it's about Bush (senior) and how he narrowly avoided a cannabilistic fate. His plane was shot down but he managed to gain some distance between himself and his pursuers before being rescued. Other captured pilots suffered a dreadful fate at the hands of the Japanese uncovered through camp records afer the war.
The story is a bit more convoluted than that given that the Japanese had suffered dreadful bombarment from the US while holding an island. Some prisoners were kept alive by the camp surgeon whilst body parts were eaten. Six soldiers in all suffered that fate. Bush was the youngest pilot I think and showed a lot of bravery.

I've edited this just to add that the fate of those prisoners really was dreadful as they were tied to stakes over a period of days and each witnessed the fate of the others before it was their turn.
