Yes, I believe they are real.  Too much evidence to prove they were here has been discovered.

Try some ginger water, four or five thin slices of ginger in two cups of water (Fresh Ginger Root) bring to a boil and then let cool.
Add a little brown sugar for taste.
You can also inhale the ginger steam as it boils, very good for sinus congestion and headaches or when the back of your eyes hurt.
