It is rare for freedoms to be lost over night but it can happen in a coup; instead freedoms are traded away piece by piece until it is to late to ever reclaim all that has been lost. One step at a time, one step at a time no matter how long the journey for they have an end goal.

I have told this story before about an undersecretary of state that when I asked him about the current Secretary of Defense what he thought. His reply was some along the lines of, "Just another tired old man in a wrinkled out of date suit who will be gone in 4 years; but I will still be there".
Folks the deep state are all the unelected government officials who can be bribed, blackmailed or just plain socialist at heart. We complain about the leadership but like other leaders before if you are stabbed in the back by your own government Klingon's there is not much you can do as they always have ways of slowing certain things down until you are gone and out of office.
The banning on social media and the non subjects of what passes as news these days reminds me of the outlawing of political opposition is a classic hallmark of totalitarian systems. It does not have to be even political as anyone who goes against the official story can be labeled ???? Undesirable, a terrorist, a no fly person, a no can leave your house person etc etc ??? Kinda sound familiar ?
A totalitarian/socialist/communist state has a goal of destroying most belief systems as the only belief system you need is their ideology..... so consequently that is why they try so hard to destroy any religion or voice not controlled by their propaganda arm of the party.. As we have seen a well structured propaganda apparatus can create any reality you desire....Notice all the bad mouthing about western society and the inequalities capitalism brings... the free market doesn’t deliver prosperity with complete equality (unlike socialism which bestows misery uniformly), capitalism is said to be racist or outdated. Notice it is the uneducated who scream the loudest while being led by those who think they will end up on top of the socialist pecking order .
