This is a true story...
I was sitting in the airport once about two years ago waiting for a flight. I was at my gate, and I was sitting across from a family of five who were having a conversation, but there one major problem with this "conversation"; nobody spoke a single word. I am straight-up serious too!
The family was a husband and wife, two girls roughly 11 and 14 and a boy probably aged about 13. They were all clearly conversing with each other, but not one of them was speaking a single word. Each of their noses were buried in their cellular phones, and they were all texting one another. Every now and then one would look up and sneer, or point. Another would shake their head, or one of the parents would glare at them to which there would be an "I did NOT do that!" look in response from one of the kids.
This went on for about 45 minutes. And not one of them ever spoke a word. And they were all sitting within 2 feet of each other! I watched this with my own eyes.
Now you tell me...if there's not a serious societal and social problem with this type of behavior then I'm Colonel Sanders!
