A lot of people like to feel they are doing something important.

Nothing that costs them anything, mind you. But something highly visible. 

Because if you do these important things, then you yourself are important. 

And when you know you don't really know anything, faking the importance is way easier than rectifying ignorance.  

I'm guessing that's why so many get highly emotional over the stuff. It's a matter of being significant or not.

Oh the modern American mantra fake it until you make it. Even though its all fucking fake anyhow.
Flash over substance has never been more true than present.
