Why pick on China ? A few reasons why !

Amazing how the governments and leadership cliques manage to get entire countries of hundreds of millions of people disliking each other 'just because'.

China is a great case in point.

In World War II, they were our 'noble Chinese allies' in the fight against Imperial Japan.

A scant five years later, they were the 'Red hordes' (who, incidentally, kicked the U.N. force's behind from the Yalu River to back behind the 38th Parallel).

Same people.  Different government.

Took me a long time to figure out this bit of wisdom:

We can like anybody else as *individuals*.  But get them in a group of their own kind, and suddenly, it isn't a collection of individuals anymore.  It is a group, and it has a group dynamic that drives its behavior.  That's why I can have a Chinese-American friend for decades (whose judgment and thoughts carry very high worth for me) . . . and yet not like the collective called the People's Republic of China.

Christ, maybe that was obvious to others, but it took me a LONG time to figure that out.  Once I did, some of the cognitive dissonances within me fell into order.

Cheers
