You are right. The only thing that 'really' wakes people up is extreme and (more important than anything else) sudden justice.
The people you're talking about, their entire families, their minions (and their families), their enablers (and their families) ... out into the field, onto their knees, bullet to the back of their heads, bodies into a burn pit ...
... and then slaughter anyone left who didn't understand why that exact course of action had to be followed.
The fella in that video made some fine points about civilizations development. He failed to point out that the people who benefit from other's labor, will take everything they can get over time ... thinking they're better than people who work for a living. They make the rules essentially, but they never make rules that constrain themselves.
This is why every country needs a King. If we had a King who could step in ... with authority ... at the first sign of corruption ... we'd have never degenerated into shit-hole status.
When your government needs to build barriers around the highest seats of government. When they have to deploy armed troops. And ... they don't willfully change their bad behaviors ... time for pitchforks, torches ... and the rope.

Unfortunately, have to agree. Some say we have reached or nearing our peak in technology. I say No, not even close. Progress of civilization has been in devolution stages since right after WWII as many of those in power at the start of cold war era were born out of WWI. All this bullshit secrecy from secret laws, secret courts, censorship up the ass, all no thanks to the Manhattan project, imo.
Then, once they took out JFK we been on a roller coaster off the rails ever since. The only way out is a People's revolution, maybe, most of the population is too far gone. If and when the petro-dollar collapses and some other currency takes over the reserve currency (Yuan?) that will be game over. Just my limited view on things.

Right now we have no 'rule of law', just a cabal of parasites that are going to only make things worse. There is no way a world full of bipedal animals plugged into electronic devices 24/7 has any kind of positive future. What I mean by that is,
Change does not always mean progress. The worst part is, they don't even care anymore. Once technology went from "invented necessities" to "unnecessary but nifty and sells well... mass market" (i.e. voice activated refrigerator connected to your watch connected to your toaster connected to your bank account connected to your thigh bone, internet of things, etc) that was (partly) the end of it.
These companies and the gov't take advantage of human weakness, mental stimulation addiction, etc; they sell them the gadgets and the internet and the next thing they know you got yourself a globe full of puppets and the strings glide like silk.
The government loves that. How easy is it to spoon-feed people an agenda when they're all but directly plugged into the web? Remember, a web catches bugs...! Here comes mama spider!
