Looks Like I'm Gonna Have To Bite The Bullet - hounddoghowlie - 12-30-2020 just found out tonight that my sister in law who is a nurse has tested positive for the rona. not only that my middle brother and his daughter have been having sore throats which is a symptom. we all got to together for Christmas. them, mom, little brother, me and my better half. reason i say i'm going to have to bite the bullet is my mom has been deathly afraid of it, she's 76. she still drives when she going to places that aren't real congested, she won't drive where it is. so i have to take her to about 75% of the places she needs to go. better half does sometimes. i also have to go across the drive and do things for her from time to time. little brother lives on the property also, but he leaves at the butt crack of dawn for work and gets home late. middle brother lives 30 miles away so he can't really do much with out a lot of planning first. so it's up to me, i'd still do it anyway if they could cause i'm the oldest and feel it's my place. it's been 4 days, they say any where from 2 to 14 for symptoms to show. tomorrow she wants to go get tested, and get the vaccine if possible. shes has been really fretting about catching it i wasn't going to get it, but now i guess i will to ease her nerves. wish us luck lol. Sorry to hear you have to deal with it. You know they don't know yet if it prevents transmission, right? If your mom strongly believes in it, tho, that may not be a factor in the decision. RE: Looks Like I'm Gonna Have To Bite The Bullet - Ninurta - 12-30-2020 Best of luck to you! My mom is 82, and you can't keep her bolted down to the house. Always keeping the roads hot. She caught the 'rona since she can't keep her ass at home, and her husband caught it, too. They just came out of quarantine this past Saturday, and she's already looking for excuses to get back on the road again! Her old man's temperature ran up to 103 for a day or so, but for the most part the only symptoms they had was loss of appetite and lethargy for a few days. If you ask me, lethargy ought to be a normal part of life at 82, but you can't convince her of that! So, good luck and don't sweat it too much - it sounds to be like something of a tempest in a teapot going by her description of what it's like to catch it in a high-risk group. . Take your Vitamin D and Zinc. thanks you, here's a little news. as i said we're gonna wait to see if symptoms manifest. she checked on vaccine, county health department doesn't have any, and her hospital has used up what was sent to them. so it's a waiting game now. you know that might just be some good news i can give her. she takes both per her doctor prescribing them to her after her annual check up a couple of years ago, d was insufficient, forgot what the zinc was for. i'll have to find some articles on that and print them up for her. might have to hit her medicine cabinet. thanks. RE: Looks Like I'm Gonna Have To Bite The Bullet - hounddoghowlie - 12-31-2020 got another update, walked across the drive this morning to check on momma. she was on the phone with her boss. after she got off, she told me that they called her and really want her to come back to work and that she will set up testing for her and that they are suppose to get a shipment of vaccine in this afternoon or tomorrow and set that it up for her. then she looked at me and asked if i would still drive her while it's still dark in the mornings cause it's still hard for her to see that time of the morning and if she could arrange it, would i take the vaccine. i said yes. she's still a little apprehensive about it, but i could see a sense of relief and happiness in her. i think it's not just knowing if she has contracted covid, but the feeling of being needed and loved by others beside her family. it was great to see that. side note, i just hope it's the moderna vaccine and not pfizer. i don't trust something that has to be kept at a 100 degrees below zero. that's not right. A brief explanation: My mom and step-dad attended step-dad's best friend's funeral for his wife. Best friend had active rona, wife died of rona, son got diagnosed with rona the next day. They sat with the family right between best friend and son, all wearing masks. Mom and step-dad quarantined for over 2 weeks and got tested- clear for the rona. Earlier this year my dad brought my uncle to the hospital. Both in the cab of his truck but masked. Dad helped him into the hospital as he could barely walk. Uncle had rona, dad quarantined and tested- never got it. I would also like to note that when uncle came down with the rona he had just had cancer surgery weeks before and was in the middle of his first course of chemo. They hospitalized him for 3 days as a precaution then sent him home. He was working in his yard within days. Though I have known a handful of people who have died with the virus the causes of death were not due to coronavirus except in a single case. Odds of survival are extremely good!
