famine floods earthquakes and ice storms or how the Mongols lost China and might sound a tad bit familiar in today's world.

Okay!
Climate Change and Political Corruption with Embezzlement and Fraud, with an Inept,  Brain Dead Leader.
Sounds Like America today! JMHO
Yessir, I do see certain parallels.

An overamped "crisis" which was really no such thing prompting over-printing of paper money, not backed by hard assets.

Check.

Inept "administrators" falling one after another. People who mismanage "crises" mismanaging.

Check.

The only thing lacking is a barbarian invasion, which place is probably well filled by incessant civil wars. Civil unrest is civil unrest, no matter the source.

Another piece of history I've learned today.  The short life expectancy of the young leaders is something I never knew.  Probably never enough of life's experience and education to follow through with change.

Tragically our modern leaders live to their 80's and it shows.

The climate changes over that period are remarkable, and yes, similar to these days.
