Jesus and Horus: The Similiarities in Their Stories
#1
There are overwhelming parallels in the story of Jesus and Horus, which have made me question if Jesus' life events, characteristics, and teachings in the Christian Bible weren't taken from earlier text. Horus was considered a god in ancient Egypt, a manifestation or aspect of their supreme God, Ra.

How these points of coincidence are interpreted depends upon one's view of the Bible:

Quote:If it is viewed as an inerrant book, free of error, whose authors were inspired by God, then one would suspect that a massive fraud must have taken place. The events really formed part of Jesus' life because the Bible is free of error.

Somehow the events were also attributed to Horus in Egypt for many centuries before Jesus' birth through fraudulent means. Some theologians in the early Christian Church believed that Satan planted stories in ancient Egypt that would parallel events in the life of Jesus many millennia later. Satan's intent was to weaken the faith of Christians.

If the Bible is viewed as a historical document, like other cultures' holy books, then it is obvious that events in Jesus' life were copied from stories that had been associated with Horus since about three millennia before Jesus' birth. The events are fictional. Probably none actually happened in reality.

Thomas Jefferson felt that the authors of the Christian Scriptures/New Testament embellished stories of Jesus by adding material about many events that never happened. He felt that the authors had corrupted Jesus' message.

Life events allegedly shared by Horus and Yeshua (a.k.a. Jesus)

Quote:There is a near consensus that Yeshua was born circa 4 to 7 BCE. By that time, stories from the life of Horus had been circulating for over three millenia. If any copying occurred by the writers of the Egyptian or Christian religions, it would seem to be the myths and legends of Horus that were incorporated into Jesus' biography, not vice-versa.

Tom Harpur, an author, journalist, Anglican priest, and theologian, studied the works of three authors specialized in ancient Egyptian religion: Godfrey Higgins (1771-1834), Gerald Massey (1828-1907) and Alvin Boyd Kuhn (1880-1963). Harpur incorporated some of their findings into his book "Pagan Christ." 1 He argued that all of the essential ideas of both Judaism and Christianity came primarily from Egyptian religion, including monotheism.
Harpur writes, in his book:

Quote:"[Author Gerald] Massey discovered nearly two hundred instances of immediate correspondence between the mythical Egyptian material and the allegedly historical Christian writings about Jesus. Horus indeed was the archetypal Pagan Christ." 2

One problem with comparing events in the life of Horus and Yeshua relates to time. Horus was a leading figure in Egyptian mythology for millennia. Folklore about him naturally proliferated during this interval. So, for example, there is more than one story about the method by which he died. Thus, if the writers of the Christian Scriptures (New Testament) did copy events from Horus' life, they would have had multiple options from which to choose.

Further, one cannot directly compare crucifixion in 1st century CE Judah, with a simlar procedure in ancient Egypt. Roman crucifixion followed a specific procedure by which the victim was made to carry the crosspiece through the city, clothing was stripped from him, his limbs were tied -- or in rare instances, nailed -- to the cross, etc. Nothing precisely like this existed in ancient Egypt. So, one cannot strictly call Horus' execution a crucifixion, although he was said to have been tied to a tree and died of exposure.

A point-by-point chart showing a comparison between specific events in Horus' and Jesus' lives is listed in another essay.

Due to the length of the essay in the quote above, please read over it in the link  to see all the similarities between Jesus and Hours. Essay Link
If that's not enough to raise your eyebrows, I don't know what is!

Quote:To many religious liberals and skeptics, it appears obvious that the early beliefs that grew up around Jesus' life were copied from the myths surrounding Horus' life which had been circulating for millennia before Jesus' birth.

Some religious conservatives might suspect that stories of Horus' life were copied from the Gospels, perhaps in the First Century CE and preserved in a way that made them look much older. Alternately, the similarities of events in Jesus' and Horus' lives could be a coincidence. Perhaps the correspondences were created by Satan to confuse Christians and lead them astray.

With all the other mistranslated text and books that were removed by the Council of Nicea to be used as the Christian Bible, it really makes me scratch my head and wonder where the story of Jesus came from.

What do you think?

...Great thread topic !

Quote:Thomas Jefferson felt that the authors of the Christian Scriptures/New Testament embellished stories of Jesus by adding material about many events that never happened. He felt that the authors had corrupted Jesus' message.

I pretty much feel the same way. Not only Jesus' story but holidays, sacraments, customs...most taken from somewhere else or total fabrications.

Jesus supposedly never claimed to be the son of God. He claimed to be the son of Man but was 'voted' Son of God at the Council of Constantinople...and by a small margin, some three hundred years after his death.

I always tend to avoid religious topics as Organized Religion and I don't mix together too well but I liked this thread. Good thread !

ANOTHER THREAD BUMPED FOR DISCUSSION FOR THE NEW COMERS.

I really would like to get more input on this one.

Great Thread.
It does seem that a lot of the Bible was taken from other folklore or stories from other cultures and Man. Like The Great Flood, every Culture mentions a flood doesn't it?

It's interesting, but I don't put a lot of stock into it.  Christianity could have been a laughing stock if this had any teeth.  If you look into Horus only, you don't really get a lot as far as story and comparisons to Jesus.

For the record, I was raised Roman Catholic, but I'm not religious.

Oh my, I wish I had seen this earlier and Mystic could have seen my input. I'm sure we would have talked about it for a long time! I would love to hear her feedback on my ideas. This graphic above makes me think of the logic, or thought process, that I went with so many years ago when I turned away from the paranormal and turned back to the Bible. I mentioned it before to Mystic that I saw a lot of the religious type vs more spiritual type debates as being like the time Moses threw down Aaron's rod before Pharaoh and it became a serpent. Pharaoh's magicians did the exact same thing; their rods became serpents, but Aaron's rod devoured all the others. The reason is, I think, that Godly power trumps all earthly, or satanic power. I say satanic because as the Bible says, satan is the ruler of the earthly plane. Would it not stand to reason that he could at least be partly behind a lot of things?

This is the reason I started questioning my experiences with the paranormal. It may feel good to me, but who's playing me for their own benefit? Who's pretending to be a nice little ghost when in reality, it may be an evil influencer with a sweet(?) personality. I am not willing to risk losing my soul to some song and dance by an evil entity. Am I missing some very interesting contact with otherworldly beings? Possibly... but I do know for a fact that my life has become so much more peaceful and pleasant since I asked God to take away my ability to sense things.

I really don't mean to get off-topic, but the list of attributes of Horus just seems so much like a prank that's being played on Christians, to get them to doubt their faith. The Bible says satan goes about like a lion, seeking someone to devour (paraphrased). Jesus also said to be careful and not let any man deceive you. When I was studying the paranormal I learned that upon hearing a new idea or theory, I should hold it in my thoughts and see if it rang true. There has been so much over the past few years that I have held onto and got a bad or negative vibe from it. I get the same vibe looking at that list of Horus' attributes, or "facts."

Mystic, wherever you are tonight, I hope you are at peace. I wish you could reply to this, I'd love to know what you think of my input.

If I may interject something here that I believe.
You aren't going to lose your Soul (which is actually your internal spirit) to a Demon or Satan.
Plus if you are dealing with a evil spirit masquerading as a sweet spirit or spirit child, there will always be a heaviness in your chest or a tightening of your scalp or something YOUR Spirit will Worn you.
Plus you have protection if you always surround yourself with Light.
Are there Evil Spirits, Yes. But they are not Demons of Satan and you're not going to dragged off to a Lake Of Fire.
Like all life forces that have been upon this earth that can think for themselves and have a conscious they also have an internal spirit, YOUR Life Force.
When you die and if you elect to remain here for whatever reason in Spirit Form and not reincarnate you are what people refer to as a Ghost and the Beings before Humans or our creators that did not Reincarnate are considered to be Evil and Hideous because they don't look or act as we do.
This is the answer I have gotten from my two Aunts that are what people would call Spirit Guides or Protectors.
But then again, my form of religion is Ancestor Worship and yes, I do hear and talk to my aunts.

Sorry for going off topic a little.

first time i've seen this thread, and your post above pertains to something i've often asked people or say to people.
but before i start let me say i believe in one God, the creator. now who or what that creator is  i can't say other than he is the one that did it all.

now for what i ask or say to people,

it's said that Abraham / Abram was from Ur of the Chaldees which many say or believe to be a city state in Sumer. Others say that they  played no part of Sumerian, Akkadian, Assyrian or Babylonian civilization or history until they who were migrants showed up during the Babylonian period of Mesopotamia and for a breif time ruled the area.  Not going to go into all that now, maybe i might make a thread one day, i kinda doubt it, although i like history, i have always hated doing research and doing any writing from elementary school to my brief time spent in college. that's why i took up a trade instead after the Corps. just rather read, watch and listen about it.

anyway

The Bible says that God created eden for adam and eve, which is beleived to be in Mesopotamia. it also says he sent watchers / angels to earth. these are who i believe were the Gods of Sumeria.

it's also said that many civilizations adopt the religions of the place they migrated to, and vice a versa.
so to me it makes sense that Abraham the patriarch of the Abrahamic faiths told stories which were passed down until written in the Hebrew bible.

a quick side note, as i said i believe in one God, the creator.  the bible says he created man, it also says he created angles. so how do we know for certain that he didn't create other life on other worlds. i've read the bible many times and have yet to see anywhere that says yes or no with absolute certainty to me.

I do respect your Belief, Yes, Honestly.
But I have an alternate thought or view that I've come to understand better than the Christian Bible.
My husband who was born into and raised in the Pentecostal Religion says this makes sense to him, but he abandon his beliefs during his first tour in Vietnam.

Now you don't have to do any research or read, just take some time and watch.
I hope you enjoy.

The name seen so often in the Old Testament is "ELOHIM" learn the meaning in the next video.

He has many videos on his channel.
