Could This New Documentary Prove the The Yeti Exists?

Do you believe the Yeti exists?
There seems to be two sides to the argument: You either believe, or you don't.

In this new documentary, Mark Evans and leading geneticists examine the legend of the Yeti, and almost certainly proves it exists!

In a bizarre twist, Messner, a mountaineer with a face like a sheepskin rug, reveals himself to be the owner of a taxidermied bear. Not just any taxidermied bear, but the remains of a creature Heinrich Himmler sent an expedition of Nazis to find, in the belief yetis were a mighty race of Aryan uber-hominid.

At first sight, Himmler’s Nazi yeti isn’t much to get excited about. Stuffed by the expedition leader Ernst Schäfer, it looks like a mangy old fur coat. Mark asks Messner if this is all a joke. Messner assures him that Schäfer wasn’t known for his sense of humour. So they yank out its teeth and send them to a lab for DNA testing. What could these samples be? Bear? Human? Something else entirely?

As Evans points out, so-called folk memories of events thousands of years in the past (ancient floods, that sort of thing) have since been proven correct. And if you don’t believe Evans, the show details (with graphics!) how esteemed journal Nature suggested that, given the discovery of the skeletons of tiny, angry branch of human, Homo floresiensis – which also gave credence to local stories about them – we should all be treating this hominid cryptozoology with a lot less skepticism.

While we await the results, our Yeti hopes are stomped underfoot by evolutionary biologist Dr Charlotte Lindqvist. She’s been exploring the Yeti Question herself, collecting genetic material from the Himalayas. She charts the areas where her samples were found on a big map with little white stickers. On top of these she puts blue, yellow and red stickers. These denote the DNA of Tibetan, brown and black bears. There’s not a speck of polar bear or Denisovan hominin in sight. It’s a disappointing moment, a sheet of Ryman stickers blotting out any hope of collective wonder.

I hope Mark Evans can take his Bambi eyes and hunger for Yeti truth yet further. If so, I’ll go too ( via theguardian.com ).

I Really Need Hard Evidence at this point in my life.

Needless to say, I've been in Tibet, Yes a lot.
There are something like 40,000 PLA troops in Tibet at any given time.
You don't hear stories from their commanders or from the troops in the field of Yeti.
You'd think with aircraft flying in the out country using Infra-red to locate Tibetan Freedom Rebel Camps, they spot a group and have a patrol investigate to discover a family of Yeti's!

Yes, you would think, right? 
I have a feeling the Yeti is in the same category as UFOs; the public doesn't have a need to know.

I remain open to the possibility and I know that many have said to have seen them.

But I have a very hard time. If it was a deviant of us humans, how they avoid detection for so long? And no, I doubt they cloak themselves.

But then again, perhaps as Mystic just said, maybe we're not on a need to know. I would think that there IS something in our woods...but what?

I think that there are not just one sort, but probably several widely disparate species - some human 0r approaching human, others decidedly not. The descriptions from different areas are just too disparate.

Relict Neanderthals, Homo Erectus (last I heard, the Indonesian "Hobbits" (H. Florensis) were thought to be a population of latent Homo Erectus modified by island dawrfism that survived until at least 11.000 years ago, when the rest of Erectus died out half a million years before), Homo Denisova, Homo Antecessor/Heidelbergensis - the possibilities for relict humans/ humanoids are varied and diverse. Take the Nahanni Valley ("Headless Valley") in Canada for example - what's up there chopping off heads, wearing furs, and toting clubs and other primitive, pre-projectile, weapons? Probably not a great ape, but possibly not a full, modern human, either.

What about the Almas? they seem to fit the description of Neanderthals more than either humans or apes. Reports of varying species crop up all over the world. Indonesians report "Orang Pendek", and think of it as more man than monkey - possibly a relict population of H. Florensis "Hobbits"?

At the other end of the scale, we have the Big Boys, taller and bulkier than humans, fitting a description of giant gorillas more closely. Might that not be surviving pockets of Gigantopithecus, the Chinese Giant Ape that allegedly died out 300,000 years ago or so? American "Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Skunk Ape" might be such a relict population. Perhaps so with Yeti as well.

Out of all the bears there are around here (and that's a lot - 3 right here in my own tiny neighborhood), you know how many bear skeletons I've seen? Exactly one, years ago. I dunno where all these bears go to die, but it seems to not be in the woods... or else I'd have seen more bear bones, wouldn't I?
